It has been a little while since I've seen any activity on this topic. Now that a few more routes have opened up, how is Independence doing? Are they still seeing strong load factors with the new cities that have opened service?

Things are still looking good. With every city that opens up, another connecting opportunity opens up. Loads are looking better, bugs are getting worked out, Passengers and employees seem happy.
I don't know if they are going to break out the financial data for independence, but 2Q is almost over. I don't think it will be a fair judge of things as only 2 weeks of independence flying went on in the quarter, plus all the capital ex for the terminal construction and other transition costs will come during 2004, I wouldn't expect to see anything definative until the 4Q04 or 1Q05 numbers are out.

That makes sense. Do the IAD gate area renovations look good? I was there connecting to an express flight (from an LHR flight) in March and I thought the Atlantic Coast gate area was pretty junky. I saw some of those white walls like you see in the mall blocking parts out so perhaps the renovations had already begun,

Of course I'm biased, but I think the first finger (A1-4) looks great. Its hard to explain, but I think it looks very futuristic, yet retro. They did a great job. Lots of flat screens and other fun things. The second finger goes under the knife July 3 or 4 (A5-8) and the last finger should start construction by Aug 4. The terminal should be completly done by mid august.

Right now, you do still have to walk outside. However, every parking spot will have a canopy built so that the furthest one will have to walk outside is about 10 feet. That way, if it's raining or snowing, you can wait under the canopy until the person infront of you is already on. I don't know when the canopies will be done, But they said the terminal will be done by mid august so I'm assuming that means everything.

Being and insider in the company i can tell you everything is going GREAT!!!! nearly all of our flights so far have been almost completely full. Ive also heard a lot about us picking up Uniteds bumped passengers because of overbooking. There has been A LOT of articles and news stories on TV about us and theyre all the same... Customer Service unlike anything theyve seen in a really really long time and beautiful new aircraft interiors and terminal. We didnt even expect to be doing so well this early on. As far as i know many of the cities that havnt even opened yet have completely booked a lot of their flights. All i want to know now is where are all those critics who said we wouldnt even make it a few months? If the fuel prices drop like theyre supposed to.. i imagine we should be making a profit even sooner than expected. Anyway... things couldnt be better.

How do they RDU flights look? Are they falling in the acceptable range? And when are the FlyI advertising supposed to begin? I have seen very little about IDE here in RDU, other than newspaper articles every once in a while. Lastly, what does IDE plan to do with its unused gates here at RDU?

Just checked, you are still the only one. The next flight, at 1015 has 10 sold, but let me point out that most of our sales have occured within 2 weeks of departure, and that will most likely stay that way forever. So I would check again in the beginning of august.
RDU is still one of the weakest markets. averaging about 40-50%. That is not in the acceptable range, however, give it a few months and see what happends, we have only been operating for 2 weeks, these things take time. For 2 weeks, 40-50% aint bad. As far as the gates, you're guess is as good as mine.

I thought that was the case... I remember someone posting RDU was at about 56%.. that's not all that well... but hopefully it will get better. I would hope that by the end of August, RDU should be at least at the 70%.. Does IDE plan on doing some advertising in this area anytime soon?
