OK, I just got off JFK-LAX in First and I am now 1K!! (Although it will take UA a day or so to recognize this.) What should I expect? What type of upgrades will I get for achieving 1K? Also, what is the 1K only website??? Anything else? UA fans, speak up!!

Remember one thing about becoming a 1K please..........99% of them have pleasant attitudes and are not arrogant like many of those who are 1P and 2Ps....just because you are a 1K doesnt mean you own UAL
Other than that Congrats.....thats a lot of flying....as a employee I have traveled 85K since last Oct.

I'm a former 1K member. Still fly UA every week, but only doing ORD-DEN. When I was 1K I got 6 systemwide upgrades. Back then UA had 1K centers. I don't think any of them are open anymore. In comparison to the benefits that other airlines give platinum members, UA doesn't give much. You will still just get your 100% mileage bonus, like you did as a premier exec. I hope UA increases the rewards that it gives 1K members, but for now at least you can brag about flying 100,000 miles.

1K = 100,000 miles flown on United (or Star Alliance) Airlines
You get all sorts of perks, like a private reservation number (so you don't have to wait), getting to board first, being first on the list for upgrades, etc.

well, on the other hand, 100.000 miles is not _that_ much...
on LH, you need 150.000 miles (and you get just 25% bonus) to become a senator (eqv. to 1K) - and you don't get any upgrades for free at that time. just a 160.000 miles credit line.

Considering that the bulk of UA's routes are domestic, and that Benjamin made 1K in June, 100,000 miles is that much.
Congrats on the achievement! I would ask why you didn't choose AA, as their EXP status wallops the 1K designation, but I don't want to rain on your parade .

But if I got that right, there is a 100% bonus on UA and there's a minimum mileage on all flights on 1000 miles - correct if I'm wrong but this means, that 25 round trips in coach /13 in C / 9 in F are enough to gain 1K status. right?

When you PAY FOR Biz or F class, you get a 50% bonus in miles, which counts towards Premier Status.

One of the advantages of being 1K is that you will get that upgrade more often. They will not just upgrade you, you have to use your FF miles or certificates, but you will get that seat. You will receive 6 System wide upgrades for international travel and several Nationwide confirmed upgrades. You will not get any free upragdes. The certificate upgrades use to be on any published fare, but not anymore. You will get to board early. You can use the special 1K check in counters which is nice. The 1 K phone number is very good for not waiting in a long queue. UA took away a lot of benefits from 1 K several years ago.Others added, UA removed benefits.
If you all ready have other reservations with you FF number in it make sure you have them take it out of the res and reenter it because it does not automatically update already set reservations. It will not show your 1K status.

I presume that is 100,000 miles EVERY year that you need to travel to get 1K?
I received my Diamond MPO on CX a few years back. I travelled 120,000miles per year on CX and Oneworld to get this. I always JUST make it and I fly International most of the time.

Actually, UA has a program now where they do comp upgrades (no certs required) for Y and B fares for Prem Exec and 1K.

1k Benefits almost the same as Premier Exec. Ive been Star Gold for 5 years now, but Star Gold with United and BMI as I never saw the point in putting all my miles in 1 airline going 1K and never getting any extra for it.
BMI gives 25% extra with all star alliance airlines, UA only gives 100% on UA flights and nothing extra on any other star airline so as I fly regular US and R.O.W. with other Star it makes sense.
I do have to admit 1K from cross US flights only is going it somewhat ?
Sorry to rain on the parade I made Star Gold for UA and BMI by April this year after Flights to NY (3 times), LAX, SFO, DXB, IAD, SIN, SYD and HKG all roundtrips from LHR, i'm currently working on my KLM Status.
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

Why does UA have 1K being for flying 100,000 miles? 1K is 1,000 miles, not 100,000. They should call it 100K. LOL.

It is referred to as 1K, but it is actually called Premier Executive 100K, meaning 100,000 miles.
