Good to see new cargo carriers coming to Beirut, even though the Beirut cargo facilities need a lot of work.
Perhaps OD720 knows, but I heard there are plans to develop a large "cargo village" in Beirut Airport to help position Beirut as another major cargo gateway in the Middle East competing with Dubai. Anyone heard of anything?
Right now the existing cargo carriers (Cargolux and MASkargo) use the terrible old TMA facilities, right?
Regards

Looks like Lebanon is going to become a huge cargo hub. The port is going to be expanded, Frims are bidding for a railway to Iraq. So Lebanon is going to become a major cargo hub on the ground, the air and the sea. Not bad, not bad at all

Just figured out the routing.
It operates Amsterdam - Beirut - Sharjah - Hong Kong - Bangkok - Sharjah - Amsterdam.

I have no idea what is up with TMA whether they are flying or not and if on a scheduled basis or not.
Lufthansa Cargo and Air France Cargo used to fly to Beirut in the past. I am not sure why they stopped. Hopefully they'll return one day soon.
It would be nice to see Emirates SkyCargo also.
Does anyone know if there are any other cargo carriers offering scheduled service to Beirut? I have always thought DHL did, but I think they fly only ad-hoc charters. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Saudi Arabian Cargo also sometimes flies to Beirut, but not on a scheduled basis as far as I know.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

By the way,
More flights from the Ukraine to Beirut this summer.
One flight a week from Smirefropol (The city name kinda confusing... but the code is SPI) to Beirut with an A320.

The name could be Simferopol. Do you know what airline will operate the flight? UM Air is the only Ukraine airline that is a A320 operator and it flies BEY-IEV twice a week now, with a mixed A320 and DC-9.

I just checked and the Kiev code should be KBP instead of IEV as I typed earlier.
BA,
It could be due to the tourism on both sides. Both countries seem to attract tourists, the Lebanese like the Ukraine and the Ukranians like Lebanon and other Arab destinations.

Another factor contributing to the increasing demand between Lebanon & Eastern European countries is the unified Euro currency in the Western Europe destinations. The Eastern European countries,in addition to Turkey, are becoming popular with Lebanese tourists since they can afford the trip, which is most of the times much cheaper than that to Western Europe.

Latest Menajet news:
In a direct phone call with Captain Mikkawi (Menajet CEO), he informed me that Menajet has started in days to operate charter flights for Nakhal tourism agency, to Turkey, Spain, Austria, France Greece and Italy. Tickets on this airline are still not for public sales, however he wishes that Menajet will receive the authorization from the Lebanese government to function as a low cost airline based in Beirut very soon.
I didn't say it would be easy. I just said it would be the truth

Cedarwings,
Your input on menaJet is much appreciated. Does this mean that they've been able to get the A320(s)?
On the other hand, if it's UM Air flying operating the Simferopol flights, it explains the A320. They must be utilizing that single Airbus to its full to be able to carry out so many flights to Beirut and to their European destinations.

Gentlemen,
I may be visiting Beirut this summer. I will have to go Hong Kong late July from Beirut for about a week to 10 days and then back to Beirut fora couple of days or so before heading back to Toronto.
Do you think I should book my flight now (I could get it with EK for $1100 US), or do you think I sould book it in Beirut (maybe cheaper....)
