Thanks for the info. I was wondering how Air Universal was utilising the two 747s aquired earlier this year. Will they be repainted in Iran Air colours?

I wonder if the crew will be forced to follow the strict dress-code on IR, i.e. no ties for the men and full body-cover for the women...

Is Air Universal a leasing company? Or did it operate charter flights under its own IATA/ICAO code? If so what routes did its 747 flew in the past? Thank you for posting.

Air Universal is to my knowledge a Middle-Eastern version of Air Atlanta operating on behalf of other airlines/tour operators. They aquired two ex-LH 747s (ex D-ABYX and D-ABZH) late 2003 or at the beginning of this year and flew them during the Hadj. Since then no news about them.
I don´t know about the Tristar they have (who seem to be ex-Delta).

The 1st 747, JY-AUA was delivered to Air Universal in Dec 2003. They flew the hajj based out of Jeddah for Sudan Airways to Khartoum and West Africa. After Hajj all aircraft were returned to base until the Iran deal came through.

I have to say kudos to Iran Air for being able to maintain their aged fleet of 747s to a 'high standard' despite US sanctions.

I wanted to take Iran Air on the fifth freedom service between PEK-NRT because a couple years ago they were using the 747 SPs on those routes.
