I just read in an online article that Sydney Airport had to be evacuated this Wednesday morning because of a guy that tried to board a QF-flight SYD-LAX without having a boarding pass. The article doesn't state any details.

Do you have any more information on why the guy tried it? Seems like a small over-reaction from the airport!? Was it the T1 only? Or even the domestic side as well?

Here is the article: http://www.baz.ch/news/index.cfm?ObjectID=97F45BBE-60CF-2062-F42AAA272B6739EF

Yes there was a security scare this morning at SYD. It happened because of a passenger who did not have a boarding pass had entered the 'Passenger Only' area. The 'Passenger Only' area was emptyed nd all passengers had to go throu secuirty again. The rest of the airport was not cleared ie Check-in zones. Heaps of flights were delayed as a result but heaps of passengers would prefer to have gone throu the checks again after they found out what happened

Didn't the fiasco with the Korean Air flight just happen recently? What is going on with Sydney?

Firstly - Sydney airport is very safe - there is no need to be overyly concerned about two isolated indicents (Ryanair!!!). Sydney is a big airport and has a lot of international traffic. Occasionally these things happen - but it doesn't mean that Sydney is becoming a Port Moresby or a Honiara.

No worries, I know they are 2 isolated incidents. But they happened in rather close successions. Plus, I am due in Sydney next week. Can't blame me for being slightly concerned...  Sad

Yep Cancel your trip and don't come to SYD!

Seriously, don't worry SYD seems to be a safe place, but I am sure someone arse will get kicked at the Aiport.

Let me just say that I would feel safer travelling from Sydney than I would Boston.

I remember BOS was pretty Loose back PRe 9-11. I was on an UA flight to BOS (delay for 6 hours) I was able to go in and out of the "Secure" area without any screening!
