Nice pics....Which airlines will operate from this new terminal?

Also, just wondering, are all road signs in Israel in both Hebrew and English?

English truly has become the preferred global language!

I beleive that all the scheduled operations will move to this terminal. I'm not sure about the charters, though. I remember that the intention was to move all the operations to the new terminal and to close the old one, but I'm not sure about this.

BTW, All the road signs in Israel are both in Hebrew and English (some also in Arabic)

All major international scheduled carriers. (Though I am quite sure that an occasional charter flight will be seen at T3).

About 80% are also in English. Arabic is also used in areas with substantial Arab population.

I know this is not rational if followed to its own conclusion but...
Imagine if the Welsh had conquered England well before 1776......
Would like to hear e.g. a young China Air Lines F/A make cabin announcements then! Big grin

Wow! The new terminal looks world class. How far is it from the old Terminal.

Also, how many jet bridges will there be? I thought that it was for security reasons that all planes were parked at the remote stands?

When I was last in Ben Gurion airport, I was out side snapping pictures of the terminal when, no joke, out of the bushes came a security officer asking me for my ticket and passport. He said photos of the building were not allowed, but then sent me on my way.

Jmy007 :

T3 is located more then half a mile away from T1. (There is also T2 , that served all domestic traffic and some charters, AFAIK T2 will continue to serve domestic lines only).

The location of T3 is somewhat curious becuse it seems like lots of flights will have to taxi a long way to their gates upon landing.

There will be shuttle bus connections among all terminals and also to the parking lots.

All the bridges will be air conditioned. Except that every bridge will also provide power and fuel to the a/c. (You will see less service vehicles around the a/c).

TranStar:

No, it is supposed to open in early November, so you'll have a chance to go through T3 on your departure back.

I noticed train tracks in one of the pictures... will there be an airport connection to the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv rail line?

Hi_flyer:

Yes, though Jerusalem connection will come later. Starting with the opening of T3 airport trains will run from Tel Aviv (15 mins from the Central RR station).

As for today the new terminal should open on November 2nd. The construction of it finished and if it wasn’t the airlines (who didn’t want to operate it on the start of the summer peak time), it could be opened next week.

There is no train line to Jerusalem today. There are works to renovate the old line (only God knows why because it will take about 2 hours to go while it is less than 1 hour by car) but there are already works to extend the Tel Aviv - TLV line to Jerusalem on a new route that will take about 40 minutes but it suppose to open only around 2010.

It's been a long time since I was in TLV but what was wrong with the old international terminal? From what I can remember, other than lack of jetbridges, it looked as modern as any other terminal(this was 1994-1995). I remember EL AL's TLV King David Lounge to rank, even to this day, among the top Admirals Clubs I have been to.

Blink182,
The old terminal (T1) is simply too old and too small (especially the security checks and the check-in area). It was built by the British (when they occupied the area before 48’) and was enlarge from time to time and this is exactly how it looks like.

With time the Airport Authority had no choice and they had to open an early check-in facilities in many cities and if you didn’t want to be stuck for hours in the airport for check-in, it was better to do it somewhere else. Than all you had to do is to come to the airport, pass the passport check and via the duty free (another religion in Israel) to the aircraft.

With expectation for more and more people coming to Israel, a new and modern terminal had to be built and finally it is about to be opened (after 6 years of delays).

The new terminal is simply amazing. It is absolutely gorgeous. The airy new concourses, and huge atrium, and jetbridges will make the wait worth it. I have always wanted to visit Israel, and this, I feel, will make a gargantuan impact on peoples' first impressions of the country. I hope that the terminal stands for decades to come.

Bravo.
