I have not read anything on the A380 simulator, but I would imagine that it has been ordered & is being constructed already. Have you checked the CAE website, maybe they have some information on it? If my memory serves me correctly, the first aircraft is set for a 2006 delivery for the first customer delivery, well the year prior is when they will need approval for the different courses that will be required. So, the A380 simulator will be to be ready to go by at least July/2005.

My guess is, however, that the software is a huge cost in producing a simulator. Since there are so few units to ammortize the cost over, and the software is so unique and complex - it would be very expensive. Still, saving most the cost of replicating a new cockpit would be a big savings

CAE is building 2 full-flight A380 simulators for Airbus. According to CAE's web-site the first will be shipped to Toulouse in early 2005 for final development. It is to be ready for training by the end of 2005.
QF has given CAE a "Preferred Supplier Notification" for an A380 simulator plus other training devices. I suppose this is somewhat similar to a Letter of Intent.
