Or getting rid of an old one.

Got a pretty good surprise about half an hour ago.

A A310-600(with the winglets right?) landed here in Anchorage in Air India colors. It didn't have and Indian registration, but rather was wearing an N number. Sorry I was fueling a customers aircraft at the time so I missed it. It is right now parked at the international termainal at N7. So I can't make out the registration from here.

Any idea's why this rare visitor is here?

I believe this should be VT-EVI being returned to lessor (ILFC) who is probably going to park her somewhere in the desert.

I'll try and confirm and let you know.

Minor correction L-188: You meant A310-300 since there is no -600 series of the aircraft. The -600 series are for the A300, as AA's A300-600s.

Best regards.

Well in my defense I did put a question mark and parentises up there when discussing the designation.

Why are they getting rid of EVI? I thought they were still getting more A310s?

Lease expired?

Why are they getting rid of EVI?

The aircraft was a total oddball in the fleet and a hangar queen par excellance. It was an ex-KQ plane and had different bulkhead and galley layouts as well as other small stuff like requiring single pin IFE headsets, etc... that didn't make it economical to run.

If it was not economical for them to use, why then didn't they reconfigure the interior to fleet standards in the first place? Or would they need to get a resolution passed from the Indian Government for that to occur on only one plane? *insert political sarcasmic laughter here*

GKirk..... What are you smoking?

As for AI I know there is a "NEW" aircraft for them. A310-324 ex 9V-STZ was seen at Goodyear on the 29th of May in full Air India colours as N232BA. Could it be this one?

Cessna172RG, why spend the money on a plane you don't own.

Better to lease in another aircraft more closely resembling your needs and get rid of the oddball.

Gkirk. Think happy thoughts, Think happy thoughts.

You are probably right. There should be 2 of these ex-SQ planes coming into the fleet in August. Last I heard they were parked as N230BA (9V-STB) and N232BA (9V-STZ) in GYR. Probably heading to Asia for pre-lease checks before delivery to AI later this month.

There was much acrimony over EVI's acceptance from ILFC in the first place. She was parked at LGB for a while as AI engineers rejected her twice before finally renegotiating the lease and taking her on. She was always intended to be a short term stopgap measure to replace the A300 capacity as those were donated to Ariana.

Well 12 hours later, and it is gone.

They did apparently spend the night once they got here, because they where still on the ground when I got off work at 7 this morning.

Ok. I just got this update from a contact who isn't one of my usual sources, so please treat it with a pinch of salt for accuracy.

VT-EVI will not be leaving the fleet as originally planned. Nor will VT-EVH who was also slated for return.

Instead, VT-EVW (ex-SAETA/Royal Jordanian) and VT-EVY (ex-Singapore) will be the aircraft returned to lessor (which strikes me as strange since they are from different lessors) and replaced by N230BA and N232BA. Evidently this was part of a package deal with Boeing Aircraft Leasing where AI would take 9V-SMG (already re-registered as VT-AIE) and 9V-SMF (in October) as well as the two ex-SQ Airbuses.

I'm gonna try and get the real scoop in a few days, so please bear with me.
