Hey Folks,
I was looking through the database and found this one, and a few others, that have said the delivery date on ship 6701 to be In October of 1999. I have to disagree, because I was working the ramp in CHS as a ramp rat and saw this plane , in the winter olympic scheme, in August of that year. Any of you DL people know the date?

Delta ship 6701 was delivered 10/07/99 and flown to SLC for the official unveiling of the Soaring Spirit at the Delta hangar in SLC on 10/23/99.
S/N 30187
original delivery 10/07/99
Delta acquired 10/07/99
Line number 892
Reg number N6701
That plane in that livery was my alltime favorite airliner. Had the opportunity to taxi it several times and fly on it a few times before Song stole it and 35 more of the best 757s Delta had.
The info above comes straight from the Delta intranet. It is correct.

Thanks Dl757md for the info, but I left CHS in August (08/99) of 1999 to go to ERAU in DAB, but before I left that aircraft was in passenger service. I can tell you that because I worked ground support on that a/c as a flight into and out of CHS. Did you get that info on the placards off the cockpit door?

I can't explain the discrepancy between what you saw and the facts. It's strange as I thought you were right when I first read your original post. I went to the unveiling and I could have sworn it was 10/98 rather than 10/99.
That's when I checked the Delta intranet and found that 10/99 was correct. Just to make sure there wasn't a mistake on the intranet I went to Boeing's site http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/userdefinedselection.cfm
The link to the actual report wouldn't work so...
select deliveries
set date range from may 1998 to may 2004
select customer Delta Air Lines
select all model series for 757
select sort order by date
The last 757 delivered to Delta was ship 6717. If you count backwards from the last delivery to 6701 you end up on the date 10/07/99.

Dl757md,
Thanks again for the info and the post. That is crazy. Maybe a discrepancy somewhere? I will never forget that night 6701 came into CHS. All of us went on that plane, it had the new plane smell. The bins didn't have any graffitti. It was a great experience.

I was honored to fly on this ship during Delta's "Soaring Spirit Tour". Tickets were sold for $20.02 (to commemorate the 2002 Winter Olympics) for each leg. I traveled from ATL up to DCA and then over to CVG. There were a group of Winter Olympic Athletes on board to meet and greet the passengers. The 757 received a water cannon salute at each station upon arrival. I still have very fond memories of that special day.
