Changes At EWR Terminal C

Now that CO has converted C-2 to all express, all the time, what will become of the "downstairs" gates at the end of each arm of C-1? In my experience, those gates have usually served express opps.

Those gates can handle 737/MD80 sized machines as well as the RJs.

As Iahcsr stated, the lower-level gates can handle the 737 and MD-80. In fact, the MD-80 terminal ramming incident occured at gate 115, a lower-level gate.

While we're on the subject of terminal C's.... IAH gates C24-27 are now refurbished and open while C14-23 are now closed off and undergoing the same treatment. The new look is as much a match for terminal E has could be had without tearing the place down and rebuilding it.
Oh, and speaking of rebuilding.. The very much improved runway 8R/26L reopened today. That should put an end to most of those 20 minute taxis from 8L/26R.

I've flown in those downstairs gates on CO 727s, those gates can handle everything up to the 737-900.

It can't handle the 757 because it's too tall, those downstairs gates are interesting in that when your boarding a 737 or M80 you walk up the jetway to the aircraft as opposed to down the jetway which is usualy the case.
