Spirit Airlines ran an ad in this morning's Detroit Newspaper---Detroit to FLL, RSW, MCO and TPA (also ACY, MYR, LGA and DCA) for $39.00 each way. Travel is good on Tues, Wed, and Thurs between 8/17/04 and 10/27/04 and must be booked on Spiritair.com.

I can remember Spirit doing $59 each way before, but boy, I don't remember fares as low as $39. NK's other destinations from DTW - CUN, DEN, LAS and SJU are on sale for $78 each way.

It will interesting to see in NWA matches these fares.

I don't think NW will go under $100!

It's funny when I tell people I love planes and they think I'm weird.

Obviously, DTW does have low fare service (in reference to another thread- B6/DTW).

On 9/11/02, they had "Free Day". it was to promote travel on 9/11, on account people were freaking out about flying.

A little slow here at work today, so I went on Spiritair.com and checked these fares out....with taxes and fees, DTW-MCO Sept 8 to Sept 15 is $96.70 round trip.

Also priced the same itinerary in SABRE.....$136.70 round trip.

I just booked FLL-SJU for $116.00 roundtrip.. was going to pay for Spirit Plus for $105 each way (versus $39), but its only a 3-something hour flight... plus that gives me more money to go diving...

from SJU I'll probably play spin-the-bottle with Cape Air and fly to Tortula, St. Thomas, or St. Croix (or all 3!)

Trying to generate some revenue during the back to school time when leisure traffic, especially from the north down to Florida drops off significantly.

Got to love the restrictions of course, and then pile on all the taxes in the end its not quite the eye catching ad that it first was, but nevertheless still a good deal.

I do not know about you guys, but when I flew Spirit, I did not catch the spirit.  Insane

I highly recommend not flying Spirit until they get their new planes.

I would say NW is taking some action. I am booked on NW DTW-FLL on 9/11 and MCO-DTW on 9/20. My fare is $553.40 for two people.I just ran up my flights on NWA.com and the price came up $293.40.
