Will CO Start Any New Flights Out Of CLE?

From my personal observation on CLE I have really noticed that it is going down. I was just wondering if CO or anyone would start any new flights from CLE.

CO started a whole ton of new flights this spring and last fall. Our service is far from going down, as you put it. We even started SEA year round, SLC, and SAN non-stops.

If you mean "going down" is an influx of RJ's, then yes, the ERJ's seem to be everywhere. But without them, CLE wouldn't have a hub period. There will be new flights in CLE, but growth will be slow and steady, especially since CO at the conclusion of this year, CO will not take new aircraft deliveries until 2008. Hopefully additional frequencies will be added to markets currently served.

CLE-SAN wasn't operated this summer, I think because of gate space issues at CLE.

Living in CLE myself I do feel once PIT is downsized like it has been reported, I feel CLE will add flights where it make sense.

maybe things will pick up once the new runway extension is opened next month? i dont know....everytime i look out my window there's a continental jet going by. doesnt look too slow to me...

..not only that, but a few weeks ago i happened to glance at a Crains Cleveland Business newspaper while at work. it had a front page article about some type of airport convention being held in Portland OR at the end of June. in the article it stated that up to 8 airlines were interested in talking to reps from CLE about starting service. it only mentioned 2 airlines by name....Spirit and Frontier.

i tried to find a link, but since i dont have a subscription it wont let me. sorry.

CO/COEX has started new/seasonal seasing this year to XNA, BHM, MYR, SLC, and will inagurate CLE-HOU this fall.

CLE isn't getting the number of new cities that EWR and IAH have been getting ,but flights have been added.

From a meeting with local management, a very reliable CO agent I know said they're looking at a list of 18 new possible cities for service out of CLE. Two cities that were specifically mentioned were TVC and GRB.

For CLE, there is some mainline expansion that could be done ,especially to the west coast, but yields will have to improve first. The RJ is perfect for CLE, and that's where the majority of the expansion will occur.

What about YOW-CLE service with the Jungle Jets? This route was announced to start May '03, but was quietly dropped before its launch. The YOW COEX station manager told me it was due to a lack of aircraft at the time. Any chance this will get re-announced, but this time actually get launched?

After reading these two responses, I re-read the article. Did anyone notice in the photo caption that the plane is a USA3000 A320 - and the caption says it is a US Airways plane. That is not a good sign for the credibility of the reporter.

Sorry - this post was meant for another thread. I doubt that CO will add a CLE-PJU route...they seem to be interested in adding more RJs to places stated above, such as TVC and GRB.

Does anyone know the load factors on the CLE-SJU flights? Also, is Concourse D strictly for the RJs, with no possibility of mainline flights using it? It seems as if there is a lack of gate space at CLE still. Any chance that there could be an addition of a Concourse E - or is the area simply tapped out? I know DTW built a new mid-field terminal, but that airport is also a lot bigger in area.

A Concourse E is most likely possible as far as space is concerned. I would guess it could be put between C and taxiway Juliet, basically on the other side of C as the D terminal is, maybe as a southwesterly extention of the B terminal - but it's not practical at this point in time. Only during arrival banks are the ramp gates at the back of the D terminal really used by RJ's which means that there are enough gates for the arriving aircraft already. If CO decides that they want to build CLE more as a major hub, then it may be in the future but I think we're more likely to see a major renovation of C before anything else.

A new concourse for CO at CLE is certainly not needed now. D and C handle it just fine. Plus, as soon as the NW ramp is done being renovated, 4 gates will be freed up and CO will gain 1 from NW. There are plenty of spots around D for the RJs as well. There are 12 gates, 6 parking spots on either end, and the piers. The Beeches only take up the middle 2.

Hi guys,

I know this is unrelated, but I just wanted everyone to know that CLE is my home airport now.

I promised N766UA to let him know what I thought of CLE back in April as I had a flight from PVD to CLE.
In my opinion CLE is a very good airport when compared to others like BOS.
Hopefully BOS will get better with the ongoing renovations, but for the time being CLE has a better layout.

28 RL757PVD : COEX tried CLE-DAB daily seasonally last year and it did rather well, hopefully service will return again for the winter and spring.
