I think it is good in this case as well, I guess more so when it is from a prop to a jet rather than BIG jet to small jet. I bet it means more in those parts of the country where weather is a factor. I grew up flying Metros, Jetstreams, Saabs and the such in California where there aren't the storms that pretty much the rest of the country must deal with during summer and winter. I always flew commuters to get in and out of my hometown to connect in LAX or SFO. This made those flights seem more like a fun beginning to a trip or a nice way to end one.

In addition, Gulfport has applied with DOT for a Small Community Service Grant. If they get the grant, they plan to use it so that Delta Connection can start DFW-GPT and MCO-GPT, two markets that airTran has dropped.

DL already flies DFW-GPT on weekends, but of course GPT wants the service daily. I kind of have doubts that GPT will win a SCASD grant as air service at GPT is pretty decent for a market its size and fares are reasonable thanks to Airtran.

I would have to say ATL-GPT is one of the busiest in ASA system. The loads are extremely high on daily basis. Unfortunately quite often we leave people behind on summer thunderstorm days and those ATRs are loaded to the max with not a pound to spare. Hopefully CRJ700 will have more flexibility.

I agree, FlyPNS1, I can't see them getting the grant. They should be happy that they have service to places like Tampa and South Florida, especially for a city of their size, and lowfare service on top of that.
On a side note, was it you that posted a list of all the DOT Small Community grant applications? The archive search feature isn't cooperating with me. Do you possibly post that list again if you have it handy? I've been reading through some of the apps at DOT, but it is a lot to sort through. Thanks!

As a resident of the Gulf Coast and frequent traveler out of GPT and DLCX this is great news. Adding the CRJ700 is going to help out a bunch. ASA flights are always full and most of the time oversold in the mornings.
Sure would like to see daily DFW service instead of just the weekends and having a daily to MCO would be just as nice. I used AirTran on the that route when they had it; loads weren't that bad either.
Having the casinos and govt installations here have improved the service at this airport 100 fold in the last several years it seems.
