IIRC UA doesn't have regular 747-400 service to JFK, do you think this plane is on militart charter?

There is a UA 747 on the taxiway adjacent to 13L/31R. Can't tell what model is it, though. Hey, at least I found it!!!

Here is the answer. It was a diversion due to weather that day. The weather in IAD was poor. In addition to that the OS A343 behind T5 went to T5 for fuel due to diverting flights. There were a few flights that choose JFK within an hour time frame that day.

hey thats an awsome picture! I have actually seen UA's 744's pass by into JFK a few times in the past. The vast majority of their flights are by 777's or 763's and 762's. In this case it could either be a diversion as said above, or a substitute for the 777???? Who knows?

I think the question that should have been asked was, What is that Emirates A345 doing at JFK??  Wink/being sarcastic The EK airplane is next to the Singapore 747.

Ok, I just did a search On Flytecomm.com but when did EK start service to JFK?? I'm falling behind in the aviation news. Big grin

Yes, as mentioned, EK started service, but it did not get as much attention - as well as the CX 346 direct to HGK - as the Singapore 345 flight into EWR did.

Hey

in his photo of terminal 1 you can see the CX 343 or the 346.

The UA 744 does opperate JFK ocasonilly. sometimes in the winter. In the early mornings or the late nights. Sometimes when i go out on Jet Blue to SJU or LGB i see the UA 744 there. Last time was Jan 15.

Also i am surpried that the EK was on the tarmac. It arrives at 2:50 usually stays in the gate but it shares a gate with KLM.

Very interesting photo. The AF 773ER usually doesnt opperate JFK and the LH 333 usually doesnt opperate JFK and there is a AM 763 at Terminal 1.

In my experience, I have found her to come in, dump the pax and then go on stand until just before departure.

There has a been a LH 333 come into JFK quite a few times.

Why are all those international planes parked at the remote gates and not at the terminal?

A lot of them have long turnarounds at JFK so they keep them at remote stands....For example the Emirates A345 arrives at 2PM and doesn't leave until 11:30PM. The SQ flight arrives around 11AM and leaves at about 10 PM, Varig arrives 8:30 and leaves 6:45, the Biman DC10 arrives 11:15 and leaves 11:30. NW's 747 arrives 3:20 and overnights at JFK leaving the next day at 2:20. The remote stands at T4 are very important.

Hope this helps.

Terminal 1 isn't in that photo..Nor is any CX aircraft. Perhaps you are talking about the South African 340 at Terminal 3? If so, it looks like an A343.

Perhaps that was a onetime thing? It seems to me that the only time a UA 744 is at JFK is for diversions....I sure miss the 744 operating UA 800/801!  Smile

Again, Terminal 1 is not in this photo, nor are any of the aircraft you mentioned above. LH regularly operates a 333 to JFK...The AF 773ER was on the CDG-JFK-CDG run for about a month until they went to the CDG-NRT-CDG route. I've never seen an AM 767 at JFK.......

It was a 747-400 it looks like it may have diverted for some reason going to IAD from LHR. It operated as FLT 919. It was a/c # 8175

How many 744s does NW to do this run? I would imagine three, but does anyone have an actual count?

However, both of the AF planes are clearly 772s.

On a side note, what is the plane in the top left corner of T1 where AF's Concorde used to park?

Also, note the Air China 744C in action.

It looks like a 737/320?
and that would be the original photo posted that I am talking about.

No problem. I remember when I asked a question about a bunch of planes that turned out to be Transavia 737s, I was laughed out of the forums!

Ah, that is why I did not know. Did they move from T3 or T4?

I've seen a UA B744 at T7 quite often, so it can't be a diversion because it's too frequent. It's not everyday, but its often - not sure what the gate number is, but its usually the same gate too.
