The past year has actually played host to an onslought of new sights and sounds at New York's La Guardia. Song began daily services to Florida on August 4, and it was one of the first airports to cater (for however long) to the A318 last September. Bomb scares to F14s to a Southwest business flight, the best is yet to come.
THREE new airlines begin service within three (hah!) days of eachother at LGA this September.
jetBlue, 9/17
WestJet, 9/20
JetsGo, 9/20
All the bases have been covered, yes. I find it a bit hard to believe that the inaugural flights were slated for these dates by coincidence, though. What's up with two Canadian LCCs starting on the same day? That brings the total to FOUR Canadian airlines with multiple flights each day to Toronto. It's a little disturbing to think of how long all this may last.
Scotty: Sorry you were banned, but dude, we already know that all this is good for LGA, jetBlue, WestJet, and JetsGo. Thanks anyway.

Two theories: The Jewish holiday might provide a great time for people to take a quick vacation, and LCCs would be prime for this (or at least as the public sees it). The second theory is that the airlines figure because of the holiday, not many people will travel, and it is a good time to guinea-pig flights (meaning that if something goes wrong, it would not be as bad as other weekends).
Also, I believe that those dates are the start of the fall season, so some summer frequencies might be cut down.
Here is my question: Can I book the jetBlue JFK-LGA flight?

safetydude, yes you can as jetblue just took delivery on 50 out of 100 B1900Cs to serve JFK-LGA. they're going to have 50 daily departures daily from each airport. and they don't have to worry about slots because they'll be taking off from the taxiways.

Perhaps you did not understand that I was joking when I put in this smiley:

The RNC will be just a bit bigger for JFK, & LGA... I'd post a link to the site, but it's irrelevant as it's all Kerry bashing and nothing about thier own Convention.

Hey, Mr. D70, shut the blabber before you hurt yourself.
SafteyDude: I don't know many Canadian Jews, but yeah, I hear the Gefilte fish is great up by the 'falls. As for booking JFK-LGA, you can't do that online, but I'd imagine that you can call up and book a connecting flight via BUF (shortest routing?). Being serious, of course.
Actually, since the first scheduled B6 flight with LGA is a departure to FLL, no one knows yet what the deal is with a ferry flight. It may be an empty plane from anywhere between BOS and LGB, or it could just be a little hop 'cross Queens from JFK to LGA--it's actually possible, considering fuel. Not sure about aircraft availability. That'd be cool! Keep tabs on NYCAviation's news page for updates.
AviationWiz: The RNC doesn't seem like a cause for this. Besides, it's been established that LGA's been on the radar for these three guys for some time already, so (actual) politics probably had little to no influence. Even with these three airlines, there are no new destinations; just more flights to FLL (B6) and YYZ (WestJet, JetsGo, plus CanJet and Air Canada [and subsidaries]).

My point was that people (non-Jews who wanted to take advantage of the weekend, or some of the not-so-religious-Jews) might want to take a quick vacation, and might just splurge on whatever they find from a LCC, believing that they would be the cheapest.

All of B6's LGA flights are to FLL (right?) so JFK-LGA would only be possible through FLL.

Hey, it's practical. Just for the sake of flying, you can do JFK-FLL-LGA on, for instance, 9/18/04, for $165.20 or LESS. That's $79 and $69 one way plus taxes, but it's as low as $49 each way. Yummy.

I think that JetsGo has been operating from EWR for a while (I saw one of their a/c this morning while on the NJ Turnpike this am). This would be a significant expansion of service. I also believe Air Canada also serves LGA (and EWR) with a number of daily flights too.
