Ia Orana all !
As of tonight Delta has added a new destination to its network, Papeete TAHITI.
Delta is codesharing on Air France 070 LAX-PPT as DL8572 and on AF 071 PPT-LAX as DL8571
So DL is with UA the only US airlines offering a flight to Tahiti. Maybe CO and NW will end up codesharing on the flight too. Our ground staff in Tahiti said that from this winter KLM will also put its flight numbers on the flights to TAHITI !

It is funny how we find out things here at A.net when they haven't been announced to the employees. I just looked at the Delta employee site and couldn't find anything announcing this, but it really sounds great!

What exactly is the significance of such codeshares anyway? (except for non-rev opportinity for some of you). Delta & Air France are already Skyteam partners. I recall few years back, on my local Kuala Lumpur Airport website, there was a big headline "Delta To Start Service to KUL Effective so-and-so". After reading further, it's nothing more than a KE codeshare, we've had KE here for many many years already so it's hardly something to talk about. I don't see anything special about this DL plan either. Even now you can fly to PPT free with your Delta/Skyteam FF points already.

It was already possible for SkyMiles members to earn elite status on AF (and other Skyteam) flights. The real difference is in terms of the logistics of booking and pricing--for example, now it's possible for anyone to go onto delta.com (or call up Delta) and book a flight to Papeete.

My rant on code shares: If Delta flies their own aircraft, uses their own flight attendents and serves Delta meals on the flights to Tahiti, then they can say they fly to Tahiti, otherwise it is Air France all the way. I never understood why a code sharing airline is announced as starting a new route. The only conduit is the ability of buying a ticket on the actual flying carrier and the collection of miles and subsequent redemption.
