I'm arriving from Dubai at Newark Airport at 9.20 am and I've got get a connecting flight from LaGuardia at 1.20 p.m. Is it sufficient time to transfer between the 2 airports? How much time would a taxi take from Newark and LaGuardia? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

You will have plenty of time. A cab would probably be the most convienient but not the least expensive, if money is an issue. Distance by cab? 15-20 miles?

According to the Great Circle Mapper, the distance between EWR and LGA is 17 miles or 27 kilometres. http://gc.kls2.com/

What is the price of a cab between both airports?

And are there other possibilities of transportation?

Thanks

Being a former NYC resident, I can tell you that a 17 mile drive anywhere in the NYC area is going to take you a while. From my old apartment on the upper west side, a cab ride to LGA took about 15-45 min (depending on traffic), and cost over $30. A ride from my apartment to EWR took about 30-60 min, and cost a little over $40. If I were you, I would leave about 60-100 min, just to be on the safe side, and about $50-$60 for the cab (remember the tip  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ), and good luck making your connection.

Where are you going out of LGA that you couldn't have gotten to from EWR? With CO's hub in EWR, there are very few domestic destinations (if any) that are served by another NYC airport and not CO. Connecting within the same airport would make life much easier.

You will make your connection, but I am more concerned that you are arriving in EWR from Dubai. If you are taking EK, they fly into JFK, not EWR, but you will still have time to switch airports.

I'm trying to get to Fort Lauderdale from LGA, The problem with connecting from EWR is that it has flights to MIA & the only flight with available seats is CO at 7.40 in the evening. Considering the fact that I will be arriving into EWR at 9.30 in the morning, I would have to wait for very long before I make the connection.

Will

EK from DXB-JFK return ticket costs about US$1400 & DXB-EWR return ticket on MH is for US$850. So, there's a big price difference to consider.

If your final destination is FLL why not fly right there? EWR-FLL has quite a few choices (Today there are 6 flights 0735, 0950, 1400, 1540, 1810, 2035). That 2PM flight is only 40 mins behind that 1:20PM flight in LGA and you don't have to worry about switching airports (which can sometimes be terrible in the NYC area with the traffic) and it gets you into FLL non-stop. This also avoids a taxi ride (of about 20 miles if I remember correctly) from MIA to FLL. Just a thought.

Good luck and have a safe trip!

You should be able to make your connection.

The only things that may prevent you from making your flight are:
1) Customs opens up your bags at JFK and decides to scrutinize each and every item you are bringing in the country.
2) Really, really bad traffic. But if you tell the cabbie to step on it (when able), he usually will. Just make sure you tip him for trying to get you there on time for your flight.
3) If you take your time and think that you have time to kill. Never underestimate NY airports.

Which there's a good chance they will, especially as we've just had another terror threat issued and he's coming from the UAE and transferring between two New York airports.

3) If you take your time and think that you have time to kill. Never underestimate NY airports.

Which ties into #1. Just expect you will be given a good going-over by homeland security. If it doesn't happen, then great, you've got another 2 hours to sit around at La Guardia. But don't stand around Newark shopping, thinking you've got four hours to get to LGA. If you want to loaf around, do it at La Guardia after you've passed through all the layers of security.

As for traffic, I almost couldn't imagine it being so bad that it'd take longer than 2-3 hours to get from Newark to La Guardia, but then I've been in traffic here that I couldn't have imagined ahead of time (once took me four hours to get through the Holland Tunnel), so really anything's possible. A decent cabbie will know what routes are blocked up ahead of time, though. I'd recommend taking a cab over a bus, even with the extra cost, because a bus will usually take the same route every time whereas a cabbie can take whatever route he wants.

Don't cabbies in New York stop the meters when stopping in traffic (unlike ours!)

No, but you are charged at a lower rate.
