What gives with the runway switch? I was there this weekend. On Friday, I didn't get out 'til around 5:30 p.m., and it was 100% 27L arrivals. Very late in the evening (around 10 or so) a few arrivals began to trickle onto 27R. The next morning at 6:00 a.m., flights began streaming onto 27R one after another. I went over to the big spotting location at the traffic circle near the road crossing, and was surprised to see a lot of people packing up to leave around 2:30 p.m. I soon found out why - the arrivals switched onto 27L for the remainder of the day. Late that night, again around 10 p.m., the arrivals switched onto 9L, and when I left this morning around 7:30 a.m. that's where they stayed.
Why the arrival/departure switch in mid-afternoon?

I think its to do with noise. both approaches have housing estate after housing estate under them , there was a topic about this a while back, But I am pretty sure it is because of noise pollution.
Saturday they were landing on 27R until 3pm then switched to 27L, I was there on that day also

John - it's to give the NIMBYs some relief. Why on earth they bought their houses under a flight path is beyond me, but then that's the way NIMBYs live I suppose. If they whinged less, it'd be quieter anyway!
