Just back from the "opening", really a thing of beauty, with an authentic Irish pub built in Ireland and shipped here, a must see if you are in the vicinity!!

They had a big thing about it in today's edition of Newsday starting on page A30. From the photos of it (inside and outside) the new terminal looks very very nice.
I haven't drove past the airport this week yet (I usually drive past it about 2 or 3 times a week) but I'm looking forward to seeing the new terminal on my way home.

Darn I missed it by two days! I drove by Monday the 2nd. I am going to drive there this Monday and walk around and perhaps get a few shots. I am still hearing the rumor that B6 is getting a couple of gates at ISP!

OMGGGGGGGG. I am so excited. I just read this two min. ago. Does WN still have the same check-in area? Do they still have the gates in the other part of the airport? is there another security area and baggage claim? I NEED DETAILSSSSSSSSSSSSS. there is no info on the website.

Not in this lifetime, unless they go through BWI-LAS-PHX etc, etc. All new gates are open as well as the 3 old gates, with the same baggage, but better screening facilities.

The three old gate are no longer in use. That part of the terminal is going to be leveled and rebuilt starting in Jan of 05. Still haven't seen the plans for the old terminal but it to is being rebuilt.

So let me get this straight.....
1. the 3 old gates are not being used anymore.
2. that whole part of the terminal is being rebuilt in Jan. 05.
3. the baggage claim is the same, as with the security.
4. only WN uses the 3 new gates.
5. will WN return to the 3 old gates when they are rebuilt?
6. is WN funding for that also?
7. when will it be done?
8. when its done, will they connect the 3 new gates with the 3 old ones?
Sorry for all of the questions and things. I AM JUST SO HAPPY!!!
Joe
P.S.- since im flying out of ISP on Aug 25, on WN, will i be in hte new terminal??

"1. the 3 old gates are not being used anymore...." Correct
"2. that whole part of the terminal is being rebuilt in Jan. 05...." According to Islip Town yes, don't know the details though.
"3. the baggage claim is the same, as with the security..." Baggage claim yes, there is a new security area for the WN gates.
"4. only WN uses the 3 new gates....." For now yes.
"5. will WN return to the 3 old gates when they are rebuilt....." Don't know.
"6. is WN funding for that also....." No Islip Town tax payers.
"7. when will it be done...." No completion date has been announced.
"8. when its done, will they connect the 3 new gates with the 3 old ones...." No details have been given by Islip.
"P.S.- since im flying out of ISP on Aug 25, on WN, will i be in hte new terminal"........ Yes
"P.s.s- is the other side also being redone." The old building along with the two gate wings are to be redone.
While I'm thrilled ISP is expanding I cannot believe they named the new terminal after his royal ness Pete McGowan the Islip town Supervisor. This guy’s ego wasn't already big enough. Now only if they'd just reopen the spotting area.

It's bad enough when an airport (or terminal) is named after a living person who's retired from public life. Think IAH, GRR, and (formerly) DCA. But this is going WAY too far.
"Let me think about it" = the coward's way of saying "no"

I was at the new terminal this past Monday, it is awesome! Got some photos that I have uploaded. You will love it Joe!! It is what ISP needed. That airport needs to grow, big time!

Did they build a new area for WN checkins? If they didn't, how does anybody expect B6 to expand to ISP. IF you have no counter space, you can operate.
Thanks,
SR

I still believe B6 will be at ISP one day, maybe only a few flights at first but they will be there, they are the only carrier that can give WN a battle. I don't think the expansion at ISP is over. It will still grow.

Not if the NIMBY'S have anything to say about it, McGowan may not be perfect but he has kept these loonies at arms length.
