Can anyone tell me what happened to the other type of Ily-96? This would be the stretched version of the Ily-96-300. It somewhat resembled th A-340. I think I recall one that it was used for cargo ops as a trial for future pax ops. Thanks in advance.

I believe what happened to it is what happened to most Russian designed planes of the last 15 years: nobody wanted to buy them anymore. No customers, no planes. The reason was that after the cold war western equipment was widely available to airlines of the former USSR.
With all the uncertainty about the manufacturer and the spare parts to repair those Russian planes, western planes were just the easier choice for airlines.

While the IL-96M was most likely not a bad plane, I believe it had western avionics and engines, it just came out at the wrong time...
After all you see how hard it is for Russian manufacturers to sell planes nowadays. They just sold a few Tu-204s and that's it. I guess the An-124 is the big exception.

No! 76 RRJs have been sold in the past two weeks.
