I have always like the Saarinen TWA building ever since I first saw it in the early 70's. It was breath taking.
I rather like the plan, to make it the centerpiece of a new, larger complex. Unfortunately, the huge windows won't see anymore aircraft, but some compromises have to be made.
That picture of it's current state looks quite nice. At least it's not dilapidated.

So if TWA just stopped using it just a few years ago, what was its purpose then? What it used as a proper terminal? Pardon my ignorance, I just haven't been through JFK in years. Regards
In TWA's final days, T5 was used for regular operations and flights, and worked okay for them, but once AA took over, T5 was shut down because it was not good for operations, for reasons previously mentioned. It cannot be torn down because it is a landmark.
