Hello there

I need some urgent help and advice please!?

I'm due to fly out to JFK, arriving on SA203 at 07h25. I then need to connect to a SFO bound flight.

In your opinion, what would the most sensible timeframe be to consider? Going through US customs in Terminal 3, picking up my bags, transferring to another terminal (AA or UA). Checking in and going through security again.

US Airline recommendations?

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Rgds

JFK in the mornings are not bad. Especially at that hour, I don't think there are that many Delta flights coming in at that hour.

AA 179 leaves around 9 20.
Two hours connection, eh- should be enough.

But if you want to be on the safe side, you can take UA 7 or AA15, which should both leave around 11 30 am.

AA terminal is under construction, so its kind of messy.
UA uses BA terminal 7, a compact terminal.

Enjoy San Francisco.

I'd try to give it closer to 3 hours. After you clear customs and take the Airtrain to another terminal (UA is 7, AA is 8/9) and check in again, you'll need a few extra minutes.

Connect onto the DL329 - departs JFK T3 at 0820. You should be able to get through-checked by SAA and have your bp's/bagtags all the way through to SFO from JNB, you'd still need to clear you're luggage and reclear security (stupid system !) but you wouldn't have to recheck in, just drop your bags off with SA)">DL.

The MCT for JFK for SA onto SA)">DL is 1 hour - this connection gives you 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I would strongly urge you not to take that flight, or any flight that departs prior to 10:00 due to that SA could have a late arrival (which is common). It is better to be safe than sorry.

For airlines recommended, I would try either AA or UA, and choose the airline that works best for you.

Stupid? Not at all. Passengers are in contact with their luggage and thus need to re-clear security.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate the input and ideas.

It would have been much easier taking SA209 to ATL and connect onto DL from there, but the flight leaves JNB at 16h50, which I won't make.
