This has been discussed (and leaked) a lot this week, and now it is official. Spirit Airlines is starting service to Providence at the end of October:

They will offer twice daily service to Fort Lauderdale, daily service to Detroit, and daily service to Fort Myers. They will also offer connections to San Juan and Cancun from Lauderdale and to Los Angeles and Las Vegas from Detroit.

I'm suprised that NK didn't throw in one r/t PVD-ACY flight.

Oh well, maybe later.

I doubt if WN sees NK as enough of a threat to go head to head with them...

I'm glad that somebody has finally grabbed the PVD-FLL market on a daily basis.

This is excellant news! We despratley need service to Southern Florida in PVD and we can use a little competition with NW to DTW as NW's fares can get a little high. Can't wait to see them here!

RIAC is going to have to do some serious construction really fast though, because there is no availible check in space for them at the moment.

Here is the article from the local news (NBC) outlet here in Rhode Island. It's great that we have Spirit here now. Who knows what this will open up... and fares to FL will start at $44 each way!
