DL is returning 24 (12 roundtrips) leased slots to NW on October 31, 2004. Due to this, DL will be reducing its schedule at DCA.

DL will cancel DCA-FLL, DCA-MCO and DCA-JAX all of which were flown using RJ's. DL had previously cancelled DCA-PBI and DCA-TPA also flown with RJ's.

DL will also reduce frequencies to CVG,ATL,BOS,JFK....all reduced frequencies will be RJ flights.

DL's new schedule beginning Nov 1st from DCA will be as follows:

DCA-ATL 16x daily (15 mainline, 1 RJ)
DCA-CVG 6x daily (4 mainline, 2 RJ)
DCA-LGA 16x daily (all mainline)
DCA-JFK 1x daily (mainline)
DCA-SLC 1x daily (mainline)
DCA-BOS 6x daily (all RJ)
DCA-DFW 3x daily (all RJ)
DCA-HSV 2x daily (all RJ)
DCA-CHS 2x daily (all RJ)
DCA-CMH 3x daily (all RJ)
DCA-LEX 1x daily (all RJ)

This explains where NWA is getting the slots to do the IND-DCA flying. I wonder whatelse NWA has up their sleeves with DCA?

No surprise. I never understood why they flew one daily RJ on FLL-DCA. A waste if you ask me, especially with US Airways and Spirit on the rotue.

This explains where NWA is getting the slots to do the IND-DCA flying.

I believe that comes from previously unused/transfered slots, not these.

I wonder whatelse NWA has up their sleeves with DCA?

Northwest Airlines applied for Midwest Airlines' two slots to start DCA-DSM service and lost out. Now with these new slots available to them, they can start DCA-DSM if they wish too. I would imagine they would look at starting service to "Heartland" markets...GRR? FNT? MSN?

Wasn't US looking to lease these slots from NWA?

"The pull down of RJs has started at Delta" no - more like Delta has realized it cant fly to every corner of the country and make money at the same time. They'll just redeploy these RJs into markets where money can be made.

Reword that to say "where MORE money can be made"

It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Along with this though, the 757 returns to DCA in DL colors. That's a good thing, at least they're increasing capacity to ATL.

if i remember right from a discussion here, the delta ceo commented that he wanted to reduce rj flying overall through the delta system, and go back to offering customers the delta mainline product through the system. comments from the ceo were made that he didnt believe any pax should fly cross country in a rj, thank god for him.

I do note that DL's presence (operations) at DCA "doubled" between 1990 and 2000.

In the past, DL's only nonstop flights from DCA to:

ATL
CVG
MCO

and then added many more cities... hence RJs, DCA/LGA/JFK/BOS shuttle, and the demise of EAL.

NW will be using 4 of the slots itself.

NW will be leasing the other 20 slots to US.

Note that NW was originally leasing all of these slots to US until just a few years ago, when US declined to renew the lease, and NW leased them to DL.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

Does that mean they'll be using more MD-80's at DCA now? Let RJ's and more big jets?

Please answer these questions.

True or False, the PPM cost of an RJ is in excess of .10

True or False, Delta's PPM system wide average is about .098

True or False, WN's PPM system wide average is about .078

Now tell me, how can Delta make money with RJ's on routes where they complete with mainline equipment and must keep fares low, when they are losing about $3,000,000.00 with system wide PPM costs lower than that of an RJ?

The short answer: They haven't been.
