A Venezuelan air force plane has crashed, killing all 25 passengers and crew, aviation officials say. The aircraft came down in bad weather in a mountainous region in Carabobo state, west of the capital, Caracas, Reuters quoted an official as saying.

The spokesman said military personnel and civilians - including five children - were on board. The plane was returning from La Orchila on the Caribbean coast when it went missing on Saturday afternoon.

"We're assuming the accident happened in bad weather," a civil aviation spokesman told Reuters.

Rescue workers found the wreckage of the twin-prop Short C-23 Sherpa aircraft near Mariara, the agency said.

The only thing one can say when such a disaster happens is, our thought are with the family of those who perished. Truly sad.

Well, it is always sad.

And wether we are related or not to these people, it always makes us feel really bad when something like this happens.

It makes us understand how fragile we are and that all of us in this business are linked in a way.

My thoughts and prayers to those who perished. Statistically this would be the 19th hull loss for the Shorts Sherpa out of 125 built.

This is what happens when you use military aircraft to fly goverment officials's family and friends for free to the beach on a daily basis since 2000. May those souls rest in peace.

Very sad indeed. Hope the families will be able to cope and move on.

What Luis does not realize is that military officials have always used the propert of the Venezuelan government for their use. I do not know why President Chavez hasnt decided to purchase new military hardware; the Venezuelan Airforce is a joke and this disaster is another example. Descansen en paz, hermanos bolivarianos.

or the "colitas de PDVSA" when not only military, but also government civilian airplanes were used to go to MIA on shopping trips, or Barbados for the weekend...

I do realiZe that, when did I say I did not?. I also critized it back then. Now I critize this goverment too, is there a problem with that? Or are you both gonna justify that non-military use of military aircraft by Chávez government?

The Venezuelan Air Force is a joke? oh come on... we are the only F-16 operator in this side of the pond after the U.S. and Canada (Until Chile gets theirs). It's has been an excellent deterrent force, and it paid off in the 80s when Colombia wanted to take the Golfo of Venezuela from us. Do any of you remember when a Colombian frigate entered the golf into Venezuelan territorial waters? The frigate refused to leave until a couple of F-16s made a low flyby showing the frigate their weapons  Big grin

It's not the best airforce you can get, it sure needs a makeup, but come on it's completely stupid to say it's a joke. Do you know what's a joke? Cuban Air Force... only a few airworthy MiG-21s and 3 MiG-29s. It's fun to watch a MiG-29 with a cuban flag rot under the caribbean sun in La Habana aviation museum Big grin

Just as a side note Luis, but Canada doesn't have any F-16's. The only equipment we have are the CF-18's.

Ooops, my mistake. You're correct. So that makes Venezuela the only F-16 operator outside the U.S. in the whole continent Big grin
