Bangalore, India : Air traffic was disrupted for over six hours at the Bangalore airport Saturday after a Malaysian Airlines flight veered off the runway before take-off.
About 1,500 passengers were stranded and over a dozen flights were either delayed or diverted till the aircraft, an Airbus 330, was towed to the isolation bay for checks and repairs.
Bangalore Air Traffic Control sources told IANS the flight (MA 192), going to Kuala Lumpur in the wee hours with 260 passengers and crew of eight, failed to turn after taxing too slow for take-off.
"The flight was supposed to turn 180 degrees at the end of the runway but failed to negotiate. As a result, the aircraft veered off the runway with the front wheel and left back wheel stuck in the slushy ground," sources disclosed.
According to the airlines, a relief aircraft will reach here in the night to take the stranded passengers, who have been lodged in a city hotel.
"There is not much damage to the aircraft as it went off the runway at slow speed. The airlines' engineers will be arrive in the relief plane with spares for repairs and investigations.
