Just now 7.40pm, a huge turboprop departed over my house from MAN southbound off runway 24,very low and noisy (i live 45 miles south of the runway in stoke on trent). It had 6 engines as far as I could see, high wing, looked like an L-100 at first.Any clues as to what it was, where it was going and why it was so low?

WOW! thats weird, we normally only get 24 departures over here, we're on the CONGA1R ( not sure if its still called that). They usually depart MAN on 24, make a left turn over Knutsford then over Congleton, then me in Stoke, then over Stafford, Birmingham and over towards Honnelly (maybe incorrect spelling).

CONGA became LISTO I believe.
These days theres also a HON1R which takes the deps all the way to Honily.
Jets depart on HON1R/Y from 24R/L and probs use the LISTO1R/Y from 24R/L
Well thats the guidelines, but at ATC discresion jets have used the LISTO Sid off 24's before.
Off 06L they fly the LISTO1S which still takes them to LISTO (CONGA) and then south towards birmingham (HON) usually.
The C-130 I believe was the Royal Air Force one that arrived the night before. I must have turned really early off 06L towards the south.

ahh cheers for that, its been so long since I heard ATC round here so didnt know it had changed. We get far fewer a/c over than say 5 yrs ago.Any particular reason for this or just less traffic?

I think they have moved the departure routes slightly to try to avoid the planes overflying built up areas. I believe it was one of the things they had to do as part of getting the second runway.

Sorry don't know the ATC jargon for the routes out of MAN but I saw the Hercules on Sunday directly over here (near Handforth station - check Multimap out for the exact location) having already turned and heading south. This is way sooner than any jets do, I sometimes see those from here but they are much further east and much higher than the Hercules was, confirming what Jamo said about the early turn.
I saw a Hercules taxiing, presumably having just landed, on Sunday morning when I was at the viewing park, around 10.45am. I also saw another (same one I guess) on a similar flight path to the one in the evening, albeit much higher, during mid-afternoon Sunday. Any idea what it was doing in the area? I assumed it was making an appearance at an airshow/event.
