I thought I heard that NW 55/56 MSP-AMS was to be operated by an A333. and when I saw this I went to check Expedia (they tell you the aircraft when you search for flights, and I don't think NWA.com tells you this) and there it was NW 55/56 was to be an a333. Now, I just checked it again and it says DC-10. So what happened? Has NW changed its mind. Could someone please help me with this.

You're right it was supposed to be an airbus. Now 42,46 & 56 will all operate with DC10 aircraft. It seems the airbus is being used for NW038 BOS-AMS instead. Perhaps deliveries will speed up from airbus but otherwise, this is the plan.

When searching for flights on NWA.com, if you click on "Select" you will get additional information, including aircraft type.

If you give specific dates for your flights, someone might be able to get you an accurate answer.

Has NW made Boton a "focus city" now for international flying to Europe?? I keep hearing they are going to add flights to Shannon and other European cities from Logan.

When is NW going to put the A330 on the SEA-AMS route?

Thanks Cdgdtw, I think that it would make more sense to put the a333 on BOS-AMS. Maybe NW thought that people would only try to book 55/56 and the DC-10s would become empty.

SafetyDude, when I clicked select I would have to enter my world perks and pin #s to get the info. Anyway I'm not booking a flight, I was just excited to have an A330 start service to MSP this fall,"for spotting reasons  Smile", but it looks as if ill have to wait.  Sad

Thankyou

Select the "Continue" option at the very bottom that does not require you to enter any information.

Anderson et al have made "focus" cities a priority over the past year and I am sure we will continue to see some connecting of dots that NW pax are not used to. That said, it would take a big leap to begin BOS to Europe flying as we did in the past. A lot of competition and a tough airport to get in and out of compared to DTW. Makes more sense to keep Europe mainly out of DTW and MSP. With our nice new Airbus going to AMS, that is probably enough seat capacity for the time being. Now, with AF and SkyTeam cooperation, maybe BOS could get another Europe flight or two sometime in the future, but I would look for some more Asia and West Coast to Hawaii. Bring back LAS NRT!! Hawaii especially with the 757-300. As with most of NW issues, it all comes back to not having enough aircraft. I think we do a good job shifting our assets to meet demand though.

As far as 55 being an airbus, the computer will no longer let you look far into the future on schedules (restricted to 45 days from current date) so as of 01 OCT both MSP AMS flights are listed as DC-10. Sorry...

A330 deliveries are not being accelerated. All A330-300's have been delivered for this year, only -200 deliveries remain. Right now that stands at 8 A330-300's.

The A330-300 schedule through Oct. 30:
1 DTW-AMS
2 DTW-AMS
3 DTW-AMS
4 DTW-AMS
5 DTW-FRA
6 DTW-FCO
7 DTW-FRA
8 spare

After Oct. 30- (Seasonal DTW-FCO ends, along with the seasonal 4th DTW-AMS)
1 DTW-AMS
2 DTW-AMS
3 DTW-AMS
4 DTW-FRA
5 DTW-CDG
6 DTW-LGW
7 BOS-AMS
8 spare

NW isn't necessarily doing this to slight MSP. MSP still has a DC-10 pilot base. DTW no longer has a DC-10 pilot base, but has the A330 base. A lot of this has to do with crew and aircraft rotation and what makes the most sense. Not that if MSP were to have one A330 no one would book the DC-10. A majority of the passengers have no clue about aircraft type nor have any real preference, at least to the point where they will book a different flight because of it.

Again, there won't be any additional A330 trans-Atlantic flights than 7 until more -300's arrive next year. Its anyone's guess when SEA-AMS will changeover, and NW will make that decision at an appropriate time, taking multiple factors into account.

And this whole BOS focus city hub to Europe stuff is nothing more than chatter, rumors, b.s that floats around message boards. Until I see a credible source, I still believe its all hearsay. The whole rumor got started somewhere along the lines of.....
"Gee, NW is getting their 753's ETOP's".....
"Gee, Condor flies their 753's Trans-Atlantic, and now AA has launched BOS-MAN with a 752"......
"Gee, NW used to have all these super-cool routes to Europe out BOS".....
"Gee, wouldn't it be cool if NW launched those routes again".....
"Gee, I think BOS is underserved to Europe, NW should launch more flights to there".....
"Gee, I heard from my mother's mailman's gardener's plumber's 5th cousin's half sister who's a neighbor of a furloughed TWA ramper who said he knows for a FACT that NW is going to launch 753 service to Europe like MAN, SNN, OSL, etc".....

And then everyone on here starts to believe it.....ugh

Here's a number of logical reasons why this won't happen.
1) NW has a track record of being notorously conservative and 753's to Europe is rather "outside the box for them" BOS-secondary Europe markerts is rather risky, and shaky economics and NW wouldn't want to put that risk into it for now.
2) NW has openly stated their focus in on the "Heartland...aka Midwest/Great Lakes" and Asia. Europe is not their top priority.
3) With increased 753 HNL flying, launching 753's to Europe would pretty much eliminate most domestic trunk route flying for the 753's. And NW needs those extra seats over the 752 on many SEA, LAX, MCO, and other popular hub routes.
4) DTW is the primary gateway hub to Europe. You won't see NW launch routes to those cities solely on O&D when they'd be ignoring all the potential feed out of DTW.
5) BOS didn't work years ago in better times in this industry, why would it suddenly now, despite increased competition out of BOS.

Unfortunetely a lot of you newer people haven't been around this board long enough to realize the b.s is about neck-high. While I have learned a lot of good info, and there a number of credible resources on here, there are just as many who spew mindless garbage without thinking about the source of their info.

Correction for above an A330-300 one DTW-FRA and one DTW-CDG. It was listed at DTW-FRA twice.
