Due to low loads, America West (Mesa)) will drop MTY-Phoenix in October, less than a year after it started. I think it's a shame since it's the only carrier with a nonstop to Arizona. There are many phoenix based companies in MTY.

Yes, it is a pity. We thought they were doing well. This was discussed before on:

It was nice having them here in MTY but I never really thought that the route would work because there really isn't a strong demand for the route and don't forget the strong competition from DL, AA and CO that are very well established here. AM Dropped MTY-JFK not too long ago so there's less international routes out of MTY now which is very sad. I hope that 6A expands more internationally from MTY and I also still like to believe that MTY eventually will get a direct flight to Europe.

BTW, The improvements at MTY passenger terminal are awesome!!

Yes, they are!!!... I was this week in MTY, and was genuinely impressed by the new/remodeled facilities: the flows of pax into the gate areas and out of the flights, including new lounges and a ton of nice stores... (I wonder if that huge Hermes store will sell enough ties to pay the astronomical rents OMA charges for just about everything...) It was about time MTY had decent airport facilities up to date and demand!! Big thumbs up

Cheers,

Ohhhh.. Monterey MEXICO!!  Wow!

For a second I was all riled up thinking it was Monterey CALIFORNIA (MRY) on the chopping block! That would have ticked me off because that would have left American Eagle as the only carrier in there, and they would have charged a king's ransom as a result.

So I wonder what the chances are of HP starting up service to VER? What kind of US bound traffic would that area provide?

Interesting question... I read a few days ago in a newspaper (Reforma), that the Mexican ministry of the interior was asking to modify the contract entered with MX to provide repatriation carriage for immigrants being deported from the USA by the CBP (a.k.a. "La Migra") - they were requesting one of two (daily?) LAX-GDL flights to be taken to VER instead of GDL...

So there you may have a first answer to your question: a lot of ethnic and migrant workers pax composition to begin with.

On the other hand, Veracruz is a busy sea port with a bustling industrial area around it. Whereas I'm sure the area produces a lot of US-bound air carriage business, the same is currently dominated by MX and AM, who provide connections to the major USA gateways ex-MEX, after a short (35 minutes) VER-MEX flight. CO also serves VER with 1x/day RJ service. to IAH.

And what kind of VER-bound traffic can the USA provide?

Only Eagle?? What about United Express at MRY?

Byrdluvs747, I doubt HP will launch VER as a destination. If it can't make MTY (Mexico's second or third city in terms of economic output) work, there's no way it can make VER work. AA's American Eagle link from VER to DFW and AM and MX connections in MEX should take care of traffic between VER and the United States.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Outside of a few LAX/SAN-Mexico routes it seems that HP is done with Mexico. They should concentrate on central america and possibly south america.

Oh yeah.. I forgot that United Express seemingly flies to every little outpost in California including Visalia and Santa Maria. They DO also have service to MRY, but I would still HATE to lose HP rj service there being the east-to-west traveler that I am. Just a hair surprised the we don't see Horizon service from Seattle as well Sky West from SLC considering how big of a tourist destination this is.

We're talking about MTY not MRY.

Er...This is about MTY. Anybody who wants to talk about MRY, just start another thread. I really don´t give a flying dingo what happens in MRY.
