Hi Guys,

I'm just thinking which airlines are able to do a round the world trip with their own equipment? That is with a transpacific and a transatlantic crossing.

So far, I can only come up with SQ:
SIN - EWR (SQ 22)//JFK - FRA - SIN (SQ25); or
SIN - FRA - JFK (SQ 26)//EWR - SIN (SQ 21)

I know some might nitpick and say EWR and JFK cannot be considered as a connection, but to me it's close enough!

If CX does decide to start JFK-LHR service, then they could do it (and it would the same airport  Big grin):
JFK-HKG
HKG-LHR-JFK

A company did charter out a BA Concorde to do around-the-world flights.

QF use to do it and still have traffic rights JFK-LHR, so could do it again, but dont hold your breath!

In fact QF used to do it two different ways:
Southern Cross Route: SYD-NAN-HNL-SFO-JFK-LHR
Festiva Route: SYD-NAN-PPT-ACA-MEX-NAS-BDA-LHR
Kangsroo Route: LHR-{European ports including AMS,FRA,ORY,FCO,BEL,VIE} - {Middle Eastern ports including CAI,IST,DAM,Terahn, Bahrain} - {Indian Ports including BOM,DEL & CCU} - {South East Asian Ports including BKK,SIN,KUL, Jakata & DPS} - {OZ Ports including PER & DRW} - SYD

I thought JFK-LHR is an extremely profitable route. If QF has traffic rights to it, they should really make use of it though.

Then again, BA might not be too happy about it :P

I read months ago that CX is trying to get hold of a suitable slot at LHR to start the transatlantic flights ASAP, most probably until the HKG/UK air pact had received its final approval from the EU.

So any updates in regard to this matter? I also remembered reading that CX may opt for a codeshare with BA/AA if it fails to get what it wants...

Yes, sorry. I forgot that it's codeshare with SIA if you go that way round the world.

NZ is stilling waiting for the clearance from the British Government to fly HKG-LHR. If NZ gets it, which they already have the rights to do so from the HONG KONG government, then they will start this route and it will be:

LHR-LAX-AKL-HKG-LHR

UA has the right to do HKG-LAX-JFK-LHR-DEL-HKG and they did so before 9.11. Hope RTW will be back one day!

Not quite, but with NWA you can come close:

BOM-AMS-DTW(or MSP)-NRT-SIN/BKK

got to find something for the small gap in between.

Air New Zealand does:

AKL-LAX-LHR-LAX-AKL. In distance around the world, I agree to that, but not in the true sense of flying non similar legs.

Soups,

Just one stop, HKG.

The first time (around 1996), Flt. 1 went from LAX-HKG-DEL-LHR-JFK-LAX. Flt. 2 was the reverse.

The second time (around 2000), Flt. 1 was almost the same, but JFK was switched to IAD. Hence:
LAX-HKG-DEL-LHR-IAD-LAX

It was LAX-IAD-LHR-DEL-HKG-LAX.

KFly

The reason given at the time QF disontunied JFK-LHR was that with only one flight per day and having that flight have to orginate in Oz and given the compertition it was not profitable enough to continue with.

Why they could only have one flight per day I do not remember, probably all the capacity under then then bi-laterial. Could they get more today? I dont know.
