I fly them almost monthly for years but switched to BA 2 years ago. I found the AC service in J class too spotty-great one flight, poor on others. The cabins were dated in seats and entertainment unless you had an A330-even then the 14 or so channels were made up of the same movie but in Japanese, German, French so you really only had 5. I once flew on a former Canadian 767 and the crew did not have any movies for J class where they had the hand held Sony units- They said they did not know the plane when it left Toronto and did not bother to check. The boarding at YYZ for the LHR flights was insane in organization on a regular basis. I flew in the main cabin on an A330 to Paris a few times. The bulk head seat was great. The rest was standard North American ho hum.

AC transatlantic in coach is quite good if seat comfort is your primary concern.
The food is acceptable, if not amazing and basic IFE.
Transatlantic J Class service in my experience has been exactly what I want on an overnight flight to Europe, attentive but not to the point of annoyance. The seating and entertainment on the AC333 is very nice with the PTVs etc. The 763s have lots of room too. In fact many on here prefer the 763's J Class to the 330's.Right Sean?

It's been a couple of years since I few YUL-LHR-YUL. Seating was roomier than KLM and Air France (the only other carriers I've used on a regular basis). Meals were better than KLM and Air France. In flight service was below parr and cabin attendants were pretty bad actually... way below the standards of KLM and Air France. Overall they average out in the middle of the pack.
My advice: Get a bulkhead seat towards the front of the plane. They tend to run out of food choices, newspapers etc towards the back. The A330s are very noisy in the back of the plane. Their 767s are old and look it inside unless you get an ex-CP 763 which have really comfy seats. I'm told the 747s aren't much better but I've never flown theirs. The A340s though are wonderful all around.

The rudest flight attendants I have ever met come from Air Canada. My airline's crews used to lay over at the same hotel as AC in Paris, and the flight attendants were snotty to the hotel staff, and treated us AA folks as if we were scum. I once witnessed a very senior YUL-based F/A yell at a woman (another hotel guest) for getting in her way. It didn't matter if they were YYZ or YUL based. I'm not saying we're all wonderful at AA either, but they were terrible. They could use some people skills.

I flew AC in March YYZ-LHR, and was not impressed! A/C advertised to be A330, but was a 767. My seat was broken, no access to any personnel inflight entertainment. My flight LHR-YYZ was a better experience on the A330, but still no personnel screen. I thought that AC would upgrade with the huge competition on this route?
I have flow BA many times on this route, and would strongly recommend them over AC.

The 333s are great across the atlantic... and the FAs are somewhat night and day when compared to the domestic ones - I don't know whether they are from a different pool or something but they were extremely nice and much more mature. Did YVR-LHR then CDG-YUL-YYZ-YVR. The CDG-YUL really enjoyed speaking Francais (they would even respond in French when you spoke English).
I'll be doing YYC-YVR-YYJ next week, not looking forward to it. Hopefully I will get knocked out throughout the flight like when I came here last week. Not that I don't like flying, but the rude FAs and the broken seat were so aggravating, had to tune them out. Weather was not nice anyway.

I flew from YYZ-MUC back in June, and there were definitely both good and bad things to say about it. The plane that they use for that route is a 763, and while I like the 763, this one actually had pieces of panelling missing from part of the wall in the J class section of the plane! The seat in Hospitality class was pretty good, and there was much more room than on the LH 744 that I came back on. The food was good too, about the same standard as other transatlantic flights. However, one of the FA's was a real ass. I don't know if he was just having a bad day or whatever, but he was really rude. Also, AC does not have PTV's in Y (not that I really cared), and they also don't have the map that is common on most international flights (which didn't bother me either).
What was weird for me is that I've flown AC a lot within North America, and had always considered them to be a very good airline. However, their transatlantic product wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be (especially seeing the missing panelling).

Point noted, but that's neither here nor there. I have yet to fly on an airline more than 5 times, where I've found the F/A's to be consistently excellent. I've heard much about AC FA's having improved over the last while, as CPDC10-30 suggests.
If you're flying economy (Hospitality Class), seat pitch is probably AC's strongest suit. I wouldn't expect a spectacular experience, but certainly on the higher end of North American airline standards. My opinion based on my experiences, of course.

I used to fly an awful lot and though AC service has its ups and downs, it's generally no worse than anybody else and sometimes, measurably better. And I've done a lot of long-haul with them as well as domestic: transatlantic (LHR, AMS, FRA), transpacific (SEL/ICN, HKG, NRT).
But one thing that stands out, the planes are usually on time, clean and in good repair, and they have a great safety record. And on the very rare times there were delays/lost luggage, etc, I was always treated right.
Of course I usually don't partake of IFE, preferring a good book (where else these days can one find 1-14 hours to read?). So I'm happy if I arrive alive and on time and am refuelled with something non-toxic on longer flights.
But let's face it s**t happens and it makes me laugh when I read someone say they had a lousy experience *once* and would *never* fly with (plug your favourite airline in here).

I have to agree with the thoughts on Air Canada's Domestic.
They Left us on the plane for 3 1/2 hours without a reason until they finally told us the weather was bad in Halifax (our dest.) however, both Canjet and Westjet departed 5 minutes later and we waited for 4 hours in Ottawa after deplaning making our total delay 7 1/2 hours...
Screw Air Canada, Im flying Jetsgo If I want to try something different for domestic next time...
Also, A friend of the family said that they had a weather delay with AC and the flight attendants wouldn't even come around to offer drinks while pax were stranded onboard on the apron, to make it worse, they werent even trying, they were playing cards...
Anyway, I have to agree with RT514, I have yet to fly ANY airline where the service was ALWAYS excellent, Most of the time, yes..
