Days after announcing that IB is terminating its MIA-CUN flight, IB has applied to move its MIA hub to CUN for the period of the hurricane that is about to hit Florida. Hope that they make it work for IB.

There is no hidden message here...the hub has temporarily been displaced to Cancun as to not affect all transiting passengers due to the hurricane. Its that simple.

Yesterday Sep 3, IB6123 to MIA was cancelled and IB6125 was sent to CUN instead of MIA. They are still evaluating what to do with today's MIA flights...

They are routing on edaily 744 and five regional flights into CUN. As CUN has no airside transfer facility, as I said, hope that they can make it work.

The 744 is not going to Cancun. Either the 743 or the 742...the 744 is being used exclusively on Canary Island and Havana routes only.

Cancun's "A" terminal does allow for comfortable transfer among international flights, just as IB will need. What's more, since the transferred pax won't be "entering" the country, there will be no need to leave the floor to clear neither immigration nor customs. They can exit the A340 and walk straight accross the hall to the A319 and vice-versa.

(The foregoing, provided there are available slots, as CUN 's traffic has grown amazingly in the last years)
