On Saturday, March 27, 1999, I took my first flight on a 747. It was a United Airlines 747-200YR, from Honolulu to Los Angeles. The 747 is SPECTACULAR. I have always thought it was a cool airplane, but once I flew in it, I was awestruck. My family & I (I am 16) flew in the upper deck in United Business. It is very roomy up there as there are no overhead bins, just compartments under the windows. We took off from HNL runway 8R, which is the "reef runway." Once we were airborne, we veered right to avoid Waikikki. The flight was so cool. My mom & I went downstairs to walk around halfway en route (she is a UA F/A). That plane is huge. Tell me more about your experiences on the Queen of the Skies.

I'm glad you had a good flight!
I flew on a UA B747-200 to Honolulu from Chicago in July '96. It was my first 747 flight and my first jumbo flight since I was a baby. I to felt that it was an amazing aircraft. Then on the way back, I was on a -100. Did the reef runway takeoff, etc... Really Fun! Then I had a real treat, ORD<>NRT on UA B747-422s. International upper deck business class on those things is truly great!

I have flown KLM's 747 three times. Twice about 10 years ago so I was to small to ask for cockpit vivits, but about 2 years ago I once again got on one and asked to go to the cockpit. It's amazing. It was dawn and about one hour from the western french coastline. We were flying from the Caribbean to Amsterdam. We were at FL 370 and doing Mach 0.88 (A lot, even for a 747). You could see the sun rising, some condensation on the lower part of the windscreen and 3 crew sitting there sipping coffee and telling jokes. I got goosebumps !!!
The first thing you'll notice of the 747 is how loud the cockpit is. This is because of its high cruise speed and also the windscreen combined with the design of the "hump". They said it sometimes can get a little annoying, but to me it just added to the experience.

My first and only 747 flight was on a -400. I was 8 at the time and I was asked by the flight attendant to help her with drink servive. We served lower business. Later i was allowed to sit in the flight deck for the landing. It was the most amazing flight I had ever experienced.

My first flight on a 747 was unexpected. I flew from Miami to Newark on a Continental 747 when I was originally scheduled on an MD80. There was an equipment change because there was a major event in Miami and there were alot of paxs returning home. The flight wasn't bad. Does Continental still operate the 747?

I'm glad you enjoyed the flight so much...747's are great, very comfortable..I've flown on several so it's always nice to compare the different flights...My first 747 was a Pan Am -200 from LAX to Frankfurt, I was 13 and was more impressed by the flight and size of the plane than the service which sucked. 3 years ago i was on JAL, from Tokyo-Nagoya-Beijing I was in Business class on the main deck, very nice flight, only a few hours but we were treated as though it was a long haul transpacific flight. The fastest flight i was on, was on an Air New Zealand 747-400, we were probably 2 hours late leaving LAX to London, but we still made it to London on time. The screen said we were traveling at Mach .92, just nipping right at Mach 1....pretty nice, made the flight in 9 hours. Virgin and SIA are wonderful, service is excellent, they are must flys. I haven't been on a United 747 yet, but i saw a new one pull into the gates just last week, very nice!

My first flight on a 747 was on a 747-100 G-VMIA of Virgin Atlantic. I flew from EWR-LGW on this great bird. The service was excellent and we arrived on time. The way home I flew on a 747-200 G-VOYG. This summer it looks like I will be flying a 747-400 of Virgins to LHR.
