FYI
just heard from family in Barbados that Hurricane Ivan has taken off part of the roof of the hangar that is temporarily housing the BA Concorde at Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados. No word on if the Concorde itself has suffered any damage.

And everyone said that the NYC/Intrepid Concorde would be the one in the worst conditions.  Big grin

Why are they keeping a Concorde in Barbados?

Air Tran737

I am sure that everyone is concerned about the people of Barbados.

I think that that can be taken as read.

One question (sorry to go off topic!) - when I was atBGI recently I saw no hangar that looked like it held Concorde - where was it?

Barbados played a role in Concorde service, and as a "thank you", BA donated one. Other Concordes were donated to Concorde cities - NYC, LHR, Washington, and possibly Paris - while others went to various avaition museums.

First reports indicate that although the hangar was damaged, Concorde is okay. (See 3rd paragraph from the bottom)

I think that it's obvious that there would be concern for the people, at least from those involved with the aircraft, as we were well aware of what a good route BGI was, as well as the enthusiasm from the locals.
Which BA staff involved with the aircraft, (including myself), who were on the delivery flight of OAE to BGI last November, saw for themselves;
