As you know, I am Will's girlfriend. But apart from that fact, I have worked in the aviation industry myself for 21 years. During that time I have naturally spent a lot of time talking to and becoming friendly with aviation people. My best friend's father is the No. 1 captain for a European airline and was originally an aeronautical engineer before becoming a pilot and then captain for Ansett. He then moved to England where he lives and works now. He enjoys talking for hours with Will and learning things from Will that he was not aware of. My point of all this being that I have never ever come across anyone so knowledgeable about aircraft as what Will is. He has a genuine love of aircraft which began as a child when he would go to the local airport and help the guys work on planes. When other kids were going to the movies or whatever, he was flying down to Tasmania with the pilots and helping with the pre-flight duties. He is extremely well read on anything to do with aviation and has a memory like no other person I've met. He has of course also got 10 years experience working on aircraft for Ansett. I don't know if you guys overseas realise this, but here in Australia the training for aircraft engineers is extremely intense. When Will was trained up for a licence on the 767 recently, he was in a room next to the pilots being trained up for this plane. Their course lasted 3 weeks, his course lasted 3 months! In countries overseas apparently the engineers' course can be as brief as 3 days!
I have now read comments by some of you that have insulted Will's training and knowledge in the most disgusting way. To these people I would like to say how dare you! Will loved going to this site. He loved meeting the lovely guys he and now I have met. He also loved the fact that the questions some of you asked tested his knowledge and kept his mind active.....something too many people don't do enough of. He loved sharing his vast knowledge with the smart young men who are keen to learn. Those people will go a long way as they are open to learning. It is only fools who refuse to learn!
Anyway, I don't know if Will is keen to return to this site now or not. It is something only he can decide to do for himself. It used to be a fun place once and he often shared some of the topics with me, which is why I was keen to be a part of it too. It is not a place just for professional aviation people but also for those with a love of aircraft and aviation. But unfortunately there are a minority of you who have chosen to change the whole attitude of this site and destroy it for others.
I apologize to Fedex as I know he is trying to get things back on the straight and narrow as they say. But my heart has made me want to write this as I have never seen such a disgusting display of rudeness and stupidity as what I have seen recently on this site. I thought the beauty boards had too much bitching in them lately. There are people here who have made those sites look harmless.
I hope that eventually this site can return to it's original interesting and friendly format, as it is a great site and wonderfully put together by Johan. I know the majority of you are keen for this to happen to. I wish you all luck with this.....Regards, Gayl.

As I do not usually even bother reading this kind of stuff (human relations posts as I call them - I only read the ones about planes), I don't really know what is going on with FedEx, Will, and everyone else. But, I did take the time to read this, and I would like to say that was a great message Gayl. The kind that kinda just makes you ummm feel good inside. Will must be glad to have you. I hoep that everybody can get everything worked out and that Will decides to come back.

This could have been very well avoided if this new forum members who started to doubt between each others knowledges have used personal email's to make questions between them.
They choose to use the forum and have create a sad atmosphere around here.

And I'm the rude one? Now you're discovering what is being rude with stupid language that I've never seen before in this forum!

From what I know about Will from his email's I'm sure he will stay here due to his personality.

Will (and Gayl),

Things can get heated in here, that's true. Sometimes things are even said that people regret afterwards, I'm sure. But, come on, don't get all wound up just because some people posted some remarks that were somewhat rude and insensitive. Look at the career in aviation that you have, look at the vast knowledge that you have. Nobody can take that away from you, least of all some anonymous members of this forum. Show some pride in what you stand for and who you are and just brush this to the side as being a somewhat annoying yet in some way bemuzing revelation of some people's inability to communicate in a constructive and decent manner (appologies for the long sentence).

If you stay away you basically let them have their way and win.

I shouldn't be posting now. I'm 5 beers into a mellow Sunday afternoon here in Scottsdale, Arizona. Will, don't let the dogs get you down. I'm in this forum only because I love jets plain and simple. I'm fascinated by the struggle for market share between Airbus and Boeing and all of the factors that go into an airline's decision to choose one model or the other.

My point is- there aren't many people on this forum with the mechanical aircraft knowledge you have. This forum can only benefit by having people with different backgrounds contribute their perspectives to the issues raised. Assholes are a dime a dozen Will, genuine people are not. Come on back, we got some cold ones on ice for you.

I think it is a wonderful thing that Will's girlfriend is trying to be the United Nations
negotiator in this forum, but everyone in here should think a minute about the purpose of being in this forum. I think it is easy to turn your back instead of fighting !
So I stand behind the ideas of Cool Cat IIIc and Knuckles.
Will has to decide what he wants to do now. Return to his favourite forum and get kicked at sometimes and stand up for his opinion, knowledge and ideas ? Or leave this forum forever and moan about what was then and will never be the same?
I hate elections, so don't make this an election "for" or "against" the return of Will.
Everybody is welcome in this forum, also losers and low IQ if they behave.
The last thing we need in here are hot shots who think they know it all or think they are perfect. It is an aviation forum and some who stick to this principle will keep on fighting to keep it that way. I will keep on fighting no matter what Will decides...

Antonov....

Since nobody else is saying it I will...

I look at the contents of you postings both this last one and some you have posted before and you know what. Every single behavior you describe your are one of the worst people for doing. You really need to buy a mirror.

White Knuckles has got it about right. Why get into pissing matches with people who actualy know the aircraft. These are the best people to learn from.

G5. I am going to send Will a MSG when I get the chance. But he is lucky to have somebody like you to stick up for him. Best of luck. Myself I only have my dog.

Like FlyF15, and Lindy obviously, I'm not sure exactly what's happened here but I can guess. Gayl's absolutely right about the change on this forum recently - I'd be more inclined to read a debate if everyone could discuss and disagree without resorting to unsubstantiated name-calling. Take the Airbus vs. Boeing debate, for example: frankly I find the whole thing incredibly boring but some of the posts are not in the slightest bit useful to anyone. I have my views but before I ever get a chance to say anything it's usually deteriorated into an insult competition.

If someone posts something you don't agree with, challenge it WITH RELEVANT POINTS AND SOME TACT. Too often people never get the chance to show any humility and agree that they may have made a mistake because the shooting's already started. It doesn't help when some "new" name appears as soon as the flak starts flying and stirs it up even more either.

I guess it's easier for me since I'm only an aviation enthusiast - I'm an Analyst/Programmer by trade, I've never piloted a plane and I've never pretended otherwise so I'm not in a position to challenge the finer points. But I am qualified to comment on debating skills - it's part of life and, like a few others here, I've been doing it for a lot longer than most of you!

I look forward to further discussion with Will and others but I won't be reading any more Airbus vs. Boeing posts :)

Phew, feelin' better now,

Thanks for the lovely post ! You're so generous with kind words !
Now I am suddenly the worst element in this forum ????
You need more than a mirror L-188 if you start attacking me !

It's unbelievable what's going on here.
Let me say this : I've learned a lot more of the aviation
by reading some interesting topics and the many replies.
And it's always a pleasure to GIVE and to RECEIVE some interesting information on aviation related topics.
It's a pity to see that this forum is also used by some egotrippers who want to create a really "hate-atmosphere".
Airliners Net doesn't need "spelling and grammarcorrectors", "would-be Misters Know It All", "would-be neonazi people", endless bullshit discussions
(Airbus/Boeing) which ended in hostile language, etc...
Thanks to the 16-years old "grammar professor/living aviationencyclopedia" (BA747), "the guy who is proud to be a member of the Arian race" (Lufthansa), and the many other "first class losers" for destroying this site !
Please, play your childish Muppet Show/Sesame Street somewhere else but not here !
Antonov says that he will keep on fighting. Well, Antonov, so do I !

Ok that was a low blow. Not as low as some that have been posted here in the past twenty-four hours but low enough.

But I do question your manners when you make comments about jumping for joy or not sheding tears when other people leave because they get fed up with their knowledge questioned.

Gayl, I think it is very nice of you to stick up for Will, it is a good quality to have.

Will, along with many other participants in this forum, have presented useful Knowledge to all of us.

Yes, I have only have been in the forum only since the begging of January, but unfortunately I have seen a change in atmosphere around here.

The key to having a good friendship is having respect for each other-same applies in a forum.

Every one has the right to their own opinion, and sometimes we may not agree with it, but in responding we should all go over what we are about to post and ask ourselves "if someone posted this comment in response to one of my posts, would I be offended?" If yes, Don't post it!

-its very simple really, however it is up to all of us individually to do our part. If only a few go about this rule of thumb there will be more people leaving the forum in the future...which is too bad.

You can question whatever you like, I hope it does not keep you awake at night !

What happened to will did he leave? I would just like to say that whoever questioned will...shame on you especially all of you know it alls that brag about yourself, when will knows 10 times the stuff that you know. I know who you guys are. Will was always the first person to respond to my questions with correct answers and i would just like to say that his advice is wonderful and dont try to question his intelligence, because it is superior.
