US Marshall's (JPATS) Changing To Different A/C?

I just came back from the US Marshall's hangar (JPATS) where I was told that within the next year (possibly within the next few months) they will be retiring their MD-82s - N806US and N822US - and replacing them with B737-300s. Does anybody know anythng about this? Also, is this a good decision? I always thought the -82s were ideal for the INS charters...good range, great pax capacity, plus having their own forward AND aft stairs.

Call me crazy, but I have always been a MD fan....to me the -9s and -80s seem to have a "graceful" look to them...lol. I will miss them when they are all finally gone.  Sad

Opinions anyone?

It is a pity that they won't fly again.

I suspect that the interiors have been heavily modified.

Did you ever watch "Conair".

They are for transporting undesirables between Federal Pens.

They transport prisoners around the country to help take some pressure off of the overcrowded Federal prisons. These particular aircraft also fly INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) charters to Central and South America to bring deportees back to their home countries. There have been many times we have fully fueled these planes up (38,000 lbs) for direct flights to Bogota.
