MAS' New F And C Class

According to Malaysia Airlines' Annual Report...

1. The new First Class and Golden Club Class seats and inflight service will come online in Nov 2004.
2. The marketing and product launch details are being finalised with Priestman Goode - the cabin industrial designers - who are also working on the A380 launch (for Airbus) and was responsible for the launch of Lufthansa's and Virgin Atlantic's premium cabins. (sounds purty-good to me Big thumbs up ).
3. Seatback e-mail, sms, multiplayer gaming and iXPlor (whatever that is) is also due to be launched in PhaseI of the launch this November.
4. Broadband and live television is being planned for PhaseII (if that occurs - I expect - but at least it is 'being planned')
5. New cabin service concepts, F&B and Menus, as well as Inflight equipment, are all on schedule and crew are due to begin retraining soon at the MAS Academy.
6. 21 new signature dishes are being planned as part of the revamp.

And here is a winner for all of us who were unsure about the fate of the A330 fleet...

7. The A330 fleet ARE to be included in the revamp and will feature new inflight entertainment - yay. This is despite the fleet currently receiving an update anyway with the new 2-class reconfiguration.

Exciting stuff!

I wonder if MAS has a card up its sleeve and has its first newly configured 777 delivered in new colours too (...cf. new inflight equipment) since it would be a shame to have all this roll out in the current livery.

The A330s will have their C class seats replaced in probably mid-2005.

Broadband will be later. Lots of things going on but MH not rushing into introducing them.

New livery? Maybe special livery? Same livery? Who knows?

I really don't know much about MAS but I find myself very interested and intrigued by their operations.

I'm glad they're improving in seemingly every category. I look forward to flying MAS in the future.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

I'm flying MH in January from BOM to LAX in C. Too much to hope for the new C to be on my flight huh? Big grin

What's this about a new livery? Good to see MH is trying to improve their in flight product. I for one look forward to the experience of flying them.

There is a slight chance for you to get the new C class on the BOM-KUL 777 sector but definitely not on the KUL-LAX 747 sector. That's becos the 747 will be refurbished a bit later (around January).

Just heard from a friend at MAS that First Class cabins will feature mood lighting and possible electronic window shades. Golden Club class pods apparently are similar to the new Qantas seats.

Indeed F will get electronic window shades much like those on business jets and mood lightning will also be available in C class.

Flight Structures (a division of B/E, but don't hold that against them) of Marysville, Washington is doing the engineering and certification for both the 744 and 777. The 744 has been on again off again for about five years.

What routes do you think the first refurbished aircraft will travel? I imagine "flagship" routes like LHR-KUL for the 744s and maybe to EWR for the 777s?

Just compared notes with an MH(FA) friend of mine who is going through the service training currently. Basically the new 1st class service happens to be the old version of CX's 1st class. And seems that MH paid an australian company to come out with the new FCL and JCL service. Wonder why don't MH get their own staff to tailor the service. SQ has a team of locals to design new service ideas. Much cheaper isn't it? Hope with all the new refurbishments and new products will stiffen the competition among the asian carriers.

Most contracts tend to be tendered to interested companies who then bid in order to win the contract against competition - this achieves the aim that ideally the best bidder wins the contract best suited to Malaysia Airlines' terms.

That is a basic policy of business transactions and offers fair competition. Its not about using 'local' businesses or finding the 'cheapest' option.

Good on MAS and can't wait to try out their new service although being booked to fly with them in First in November will probably be too soon to experience the new service... but who knows - I could get lucky...

I hope MAS isnt upgrading their First and Business class products to some older generation product. I would suck if they upgraded to e.g. SQ's current product, and half a year later SQ / EK and whatnot come up with something better. MAS isnt going to upgrade thier in flight product that often if you judge by the past.

MAS should come up with some new, something original, possibly revolutionary.... Now wouldnt that be cool??

Well...According to Airbus Lover they are not following any airline style...But notes have been compared between MH crew and CX crew(Both are dedicated crew with the respective airline). And CX had done away with SOME of the services that MH going to adopt way in the late 90's. On the side note..SQ is drafting a new JCL service which I'm not surprise will be at par with the FCL standard. I believe it's time SQ have to come up with a better JCL/FCL service and product. So they will live up to the slogan "The airline that even other airlines talk about"...Cheers!

Um new product launch end 2004 so let's say 2005. By the time full implementation is done, it won't be long till you see even newer ones MH have in the cards for the... A380. Smile/happy/getting dizzy
