CX To Enter Code Share Agreement With MU

Under the new air service agreement between China and Hong Kong, Hong Kong's main carrier, CX will only allow to enter the Shanghai market by 2006 (no specific day mention, kind a vague huh).. On the other hand, the news also reported that CX can increases their flights to PEK (there is no detail about how many flights they can have, but i thinkit will be a daily flight). Again, I think CX gets the sh*tty deal from the agreement, which is totally unfair to CX. As China expands their air service agreement with USA, more people will rather fly directly to China as oppose to transit in HKG.. this in the end, will hurt Hong Kong's economy, which I started to belive that China do not care about it.

Since the delay to enter Shanghai market will mean another big hit to CX's mainland market, CX plans to enter codeshare agreement with MU on HKG-PVG flight.. In addition, CX also has been rumored that it may take a stake in one of China's airline..

what do you guys think about this? A codeshare of MU and CX..?

Personally, I think that the codeshare will be the only solution for CX to enter the fastest growing market in the world, however, due to the limited quality of service that MU is providing, (i traveled with them once, food was okay, but there is limited entertainment and the crews seem to be friendly to the western that sit next to me) the codeshare might hurt CX's image.. however, i will still support the idea of the codeshare..

well, it is really a shame that CX can not operate flights to shanghai, but perhaps not as bad as it sounds. due to the south location of HKG, it doesn't make sense for US travellers to fly south and then north to PVG, they deserve direct services to PVG, Unless CX is considering doing HKG-US via PVG. geographically, HKG is at a good position only for flights to AUS and NZ for connection from shanghai. really a shame that we have to stay inflight longer with SQ due to the lack of CX in PVG. QF is going to start MEL-SYD-PVG on 2 DEC, although it is only a twice weekly service, still much better than nothing and i'm glad QF considered my city as a destination among the very few international cities they operate flights to. MU is actually a good one to codeshare with, their service is kinda average especially in terms of their inflight entertainment, but HKG-PVG is only a short haul and it doesn't matter that much. Yes, they need to improve their altittude towards asian travellers and so do CX and SQ. two ways you can look at this: 1, intraracial descrimination 2, arrogance of people from cities of self awareness, e.g. hongkong, singapore, shanghai, to a less extent Beijing. From my point of view, CX is as good as SQ apart from the amount of cantonese spoken onboard. it doesn't really bother me much, fine, u guys are from HK and deserve to insist to speak your language as you do have a much different background. the only thing about cantonese that bother me all the time is that even people from canton could sometimes insist to speak cantonese to us which is considered as offensive from my point of view. don't think MU would hurt CX's image as MU does codeshare with other major carriers like QF, AF,AA...
my point of view on CX entering PVG, they'd better do and i would highly be interested to see the famous asian brush flying here as a second hub and they deserve the right and PVG do need a stronger presence of oneworld as BA and AA can't operate here. CX should have no problem making money on HKG-PVG sector itself. regarding the position of HKG as a gate way city, it will still be and aways be but not a must. SYD-HKG-PVG would have a market as SYD-SIN-HKG, but only build on personal preferrence and the fare CX offers. relying on transiting passengers from PVG in the future is just wrong. CX's entry to PVG would give a nice big punch on MU to force them to improve themselves and forcus more on other routes which is good for PVG and welcome CX
