Does anyone know at what stage the Washington Dulles underground train system is at? I've heard very little news, and since Dulles is my home airport, I'm curious. I will jump for joy the day I don't have to ride another one of those people-movers!
Thanks

You've got about 5 years to wait on those trains so I don't think they will have much completed yet. The pedestrian tunnel (or a portion of it?) is opening this thanksgiving. But this is just what the media has reported so I don't know how accurate those dates are.

The Metro Washington Airport Authority website has a pretty good rundown of the construction projects and other long term items going on at Dulles right now. The people mover system will be completed in 2009 AFAIK. With the aforementioned pedestrian tunnel to A/B open later this fall. I do not believe this will extend further out towards the future new C/D.

Also from what I can surmise from MWAA's website the people mover will not have a stop at the current C/D concourse... which means as about as much as you make of it. Perhaps they will finally start on the "permanent" midfield concourse in the not too distant future?

Where will the underground tunnel go to? The new B terminal, or the midfield?

Is that what the large holes in front of the B terminal are?

You know, I was really thinking about this the other day when I saw a picture of Concourse F.

I'm curious/concerned that the new Concourse F facility will block where they'd want to put the new Concourse C.

The Dulles Development website does have details on projects in progress, but is light on future ones.

the underground access to the midfield terminals will occur in several stages. the first stage will include the opening of the pedestrian walkway from the main to terminal B. that pedestrian walkway will continue to the NEW terminal C/D (remember that B is now 'permanent', while C and D are 'temporary'). rail will also go to C/D, but only after they are rebuilt.

the 'G' terminal for UAX is nothing fancy bcs it too is temporary - the new C/D terminal will be in that area - you can see that much of the expanded ramp area for those new terminals has been built already. i believe the new C/D will include express gates too.
