What would be the range if a carrier wants to provide a premium product Europe - SYD/MEL by focussing on the 350 best paying passengers a day.
SQ has reduced seating capasity on it's A350's drastically to fly to the US. Walking around options, more legroom & a wider economy seat and bars / badrooms etc. would be neccesary anyway on such long flights...
Do the weight savings of leaving out ~ 200 people & some cargo make it possible to fly Europe-Australia directly (& back) ?
Or the other way around, how much people/cargo have to be cut to make it technically possible.
Could Airbus place some extra fuel tanks in the A380 cargo hold ? (as they did with the A319LR etc..)
200 pax less = 20 tons less payload = potentially 20 tons more fuel = probably some 800nm more range because the plane is very light when those 20 tons fuel finally have to be burned.
When you say SYD/MEL to Europe, I assume you are figuring that these routes would be to LHR? I don't see anyone using the A380 for long-thin premium service... so it would have to be a big-ticket market. I assume LHR would be the biggest of these...
LHR-SYD = 9,188 nm
LHR-MEL = 9,127 nm
Also figure in about 450 nm worth of reserve fuel and another 450 to fight head-winds.. and you need almost a full 10,000 nm worth of range to fly these routes. Judging by the .pdf, this would be a very meager payload of 20 tons, versus a 95 ton payload for an 8000nm flight.
That's nearly a 75% payload reduction. The amenities on board such a flight could be borderline rediculous... but I assume highly uneconomical. I would think it would be in the best interest of airlines like QF to begin opperating A388 on SYD-SIN/BKK-LHR and run non-stop premium services with a smaller B/C-market aircraft like the A345, 7E7-8/9, or 777-200LR
Major correction- I rechecked the payload/range Z-chart and I no longer believe LHR-SYD/MEL is possible. The figure I quouted above was for the A380F.... for a passenger A380 to fly 9500+nm, there would be less than a 10 ton payload...

Right-click and "Save Target As..." to save the file, then open in Acrobat. Opening large Acrobat files in your browser involves a lot of Voodoo caching algorithms mostly designed for reading from top to bottom. Slowly. As you have noticed if you jump around the performance is crap and the browser feels locked up (although it is not).
