I was trying to put together a list of airlines and aircraft I've flown so far. The list is complete, except for one flight. Back in 1995 I was flying BA JFK-BHX onboard 757 and then connecting to AMS. It was second week of September 1995, can remember departre time, but sometime late a.m. I presume. Is it possible that I flew the BHX-AMS leg with BAC 1-11?

Flown on a 1-11 from MAN to Rome Campino and return. Only thing that really sticks on my mind is the aircraft stopping at the end of the runway at Campino and the Captain coming on the tannoy to say we'd be holding for a few minutes with the brakes on while they took the engines to full power. We needed to do this due to the runway length. Straight away the two Speys powered up making one heck of a racket, the plane wanting to go, then the brakes were released - awesome, once I detached myself from the seat that I was thrown back into!

Although the BAC 1-11 is a short-haul aircraft, it needs long runs to get airborne. Dan-Air, British Island Airways and Monarch used to fly this type to Monastir,Tunisia and all the runway length, 2950m, was used during take-off. The type has also to fill, in the engines i think, a cooling water called "white spirit".
