Egyptian charter airline, Air Memphis have decided to lease the B737-800 and A320 to meet the fast expanding Europe-Egypt charter market.

The airline will lease 2 B738s from Turkish operator, Pegasus Airlines in October, followed by an A320 in December (source unknown). The additional aircraft will allow the airline to massively increase flights to Italy as well as Germany, East Europe and possible initiation of services to the UK.

Air Memphis entered the charter market late last year operating a single A320 (SU-PBD) from Cairo and various tourist hotspots like Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Luxor to Europe and the Middle East.

The airline previously operated B707s on cargo duties but quit the freighter market in April after an incident with their ageing Boeing.

Hmm.. could they not find a used 767 or A300 to fill this need? There are probably a suitable frame sitting around somewhere, seems kinda irrational to dump all cargo opperations.

DfwRevolution, Another Egyptian airline called Tristar initiated cargo services soon after with A300Fs, which I think effected Air Memphis's decision to re-enter the cargo market.

So I guess Air Memphis felt that the market was getting alittle 'crowded', but they have not ruled out re-starting cargo flights in the future.
