Their was just a short message on the radio - a MyTravel aircraft with 230 passengers on board was hit by a lightning shortly after takeoff from Naples Airport / Sicily-Italy.
The aircraft immediatly returned to NAP for an emergency landing. All passengers are fine, nobody injured.
The aircraft was on the way back to the UK.

No further details available for the moment (from my side).

=TW741=

ok some more details received:
flight destination Manchester/UK, 232 Pax on board

here is the original text (for the Italians):

Wow I was surprised it was in Italy...

I was expecting to see that it happened at SFB in Florida where there is lightning all the time.

Hi,

That is complete rubbish! Just because an aircraft gets struck by lightening does not mean a thing! It would be nice if you would show support for MyTravel Group rather then constantly put them down. At least they are British!

I was on a KLM 737-800 that got hit by lightening a few years back. it is totally a non-incident.

They did not have to return to the airport, but it was the pilot's decision. This happens almost everyday, it is not a big deal.

TW741,

Naples is not in Sicily, it's just in the south of Italy !!!

Thunderstorms, CBs, and heavy rains are caracterizing the northern Tunisian and the southern Italian weather the past few days !!! Now it's sunny again !!!

My last 6 holidays were with Mytravel, isnt that support enough? i was just pointing out the irony of this whole "my travel is going under because of....." thing that goes on on this site.

Hi,

I'm very pleased to hear that Catatonic. It just annoying when comments like that come about when you have two people close to you working for them. I'm pretty sure will continue operating for many years to come. Sorry.

My aircraft got struck by lighting 2 weeks ago flying into IAD. If there is noticable damage then the aircraft has to get inspected. But it is really no big deal. I had no idea it happened until the Captain called to tell me.
