As MAS starts to prepare for the first delivery of its A380, the local press in Malaysia has outlined further expansion plans for Malaysia Airlines.
MAS has announced plans to begin flights to more cities in China and India - the current Asian hotspots for expansion. Although it has been mentioned before (with plans to serve Chengdu, Kunming and Wuhan), this latest news item announces Guilin and Shenyang as next on the list of additions. Over in India, Amritsar, Trichy and Trivandrum will be added along with their current plans to serve Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Cochin (already previously announced).
Back to other news, Malaysia Airlines will also increase their flights to Los Angeles back to provide a daily link from Kuala Lumpur - I expect ALL flights will operate via Taipei. Beijing also gets an increase with flights going from daily to 9 times a week.
On the A380 subject, MAS plans to begin construction of its A380 hangar and flight simulator shortly and is preparing itself financially for its arrival.

My guess is that, as long as Air France doesn't operate its own flights into KL, Malaysia will have a tough time getting their hands on extra CDG slots. If, however, MH decides to join the Skyteam Alliance, we might very well see both AF and MH operating between CDG and KUL, and code-sharing on each other's flights.

I don't think MAS has any current plans to operate nonstop to the USA. The market travelling between KL and LAX/EWR is slightly different than that out of Singapore. SIA has carved itself a unique niche and there would probably be little room for competition for such a long flight at the moment.
MAS is concentrating on Asian expansion at the moment - which is the great since MAS has always lagged behind SIA historically in regional services and is really pushing itself regionally to continue to build KUL into a hub. Once you have a good regional selection of destinations, there will be more transfer traffic to feed into the long-haul sectors.
MAS will also be introducing the A380 on to key markets in 2006 (I think its 2006) so this should be a treat its long-haul customers - but MAS does not currently have too many plans for long-haul growth otherwise.
Paris remains a really sore thumb as MAS flights to and from CDG are always packed year round and the French Authorities are not budging on their applications for more flights as Air France does not serve Malaysia. MAS even looked into flying into Nice as well a few years back but that was turned down by the French government. Air France however turned up earlier this year at the MATTA trade fair and sent media tongues wagging about Air France's possible return to Malaysia and I guess MAS' membership into Skyteam (the alliance most widely tipped) will depend HEAVILY on how French-Malaysian talks pan out over the next few months.
Personally, having flown AF CDG-SIN in the past - its often full of passengers connecting to Malaysian cities - so it would make sense for AF and MAS to sit down and iron out this stickling point.
