Hello, everyone!
What ever happened to Great American Airways of Reno, NV? They had been around for quite a long time then all of a sudden disappeared.
I remember seeing them at OAK for a little while. Did they actually have scheduled service at one time?

Around 1980, they had scheduled RNO-OAK service with some old beater DC-9's that were always landing at RNO with one engine out. They lasted on into the 80's as a charter carrier. Somewhere around 1986 or so I recall one of their DC-9's rotting in an infield area at RNO without the engines. Sorry I can't remember much else.

They did a lot of charter work for Nevada Casinos, using DC-9's.
They used to use one of our B gates here in SLC a lot, and that was in
91-93. Their flights were always going to odd places like Wendover,
Elko, Ely, Laughlin, Twin Falls ID the airport for Jackpot NV) I later heard they were
fined for maintenance violations and later voluntarily gave up their operation certificate. That was the lat I ever heard fo them.

DeltaAgent1 refreshed my memory. I remember hearing one day that the Flight Standards District Office was about to raid the Great American offices for evidence of maintenance problems. And sure enough, on the TV news that night, federal agents were shown carting away cartons and cartons of files. I believe the end for Great American came soon after that.

Come to think of it, I have a shot or two of their MD-87 at SFO in scheduled-charter (?) service-- maybe Suntrips to Cancun? But were they ever scheduled enough to appear in the OAG? Under their own name?
