The NYPD's bomb squad was called to LaGuardia Airport early yesterday after fireworks were found aboard a plane, authorities said.

Four M-80 explosives were found stuffed into a tissue box in a bathroom at the rear of the aircraft by a Spirit Airlines mechanic shortly after Flight 710 arrived from Fort Lauderdale, police officials said.

Members of the bomb squad were summoned about 12:30 a.m. to remove the explosives from the plane, which seats about 150 people, officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, which is still under investigation.

"Spirit Airlines is working very closely with authorities to investigate," said airline spokeswoman Rini Ader.

Yes I do realize this is a serious security issue, but...

If you're going to hide fireworks on a MD-80 aircraft, what better choice than M-80s!

Seriously though, one of those things could do major damage to the aircraft. Am I right in thinking the M-80 is basically a one-quarter stick of dynamite? I heard that stat. somewhere.

I used to light off M 80s as a kid, if one was lit it wouldnt cause structural damage I don't think to a plane. Four of them if they all went off at the same time yes they probably would

One could possibly start a fire in the tissue or do a ton of damage if they were flushed down the toilet

This is a test... This is only a test...

Do M80's have the same explosives used in dynamite? They may have been testing to see if you can sneak it through in small quantities.TC

Our lovely government's TSA (which is full of great workers) has let in something else. Why is it in this country throwing money into something is the answer to everything? This would have done a tremendous number on an MD-80. I just don't get it. How do things like this happen so frequently?

hmmmmm.......... Confused
