JetBlue is allowing passengers to bring a friend on for free (on $139 fares) when flying between IAD and LGB, OAK, and SMF. Travel must be booked by October 8 and flight must be taken by November 15.

Does anyone know if there's a reason for JetBlue doing this? Is it because another airline has launched a campaign like this on corresponding routes, or is it just because it's a slow season?

Note that IAD-FLL is not a part of the promotion.

If I only lived in Washington; I wouldn't mind a weekend trip to LA for only $140 (rt) pp.

Comments are welcomed and appreciated!!!

Well Independence Air currently has a 2 for 1 promotion for their iclub members. Perhaps JetBlue is looking to stay competitive in Dulles.

well right now Indy Air doesn't fly between IAD and the west coast so it's nothing to "save market share" against them "right now". this must've came out of the blue (no pun intended  Laugh out loud) i was actually surprised about this...but too, airlines do put sales on particular cities every once in a while. IAD just happens to be that city within our network. (though like you said...IAD-FLL wasn't even part of the deal). See you in the air!

Jet Blue and other airlines offer all sorts of discounts for Fall travel. It's the least traveled time of the year and they need to fill their airplanes....even if it means not making as much money. This is the cheapest time to fly to Europe and many other places.

To be in the news...pure advertising. Loads are going to get lower as the season progresses

Too bad you do not need to be any type of member for the jetBlue offer and you do for Indy Air.
