Would it be feasable at all for another airline to aquire US? For example, if NW aquired US, they could have a mini-hub in PHL with several Europe flights, a focus city in CLT, and dimantle the rest of the US network. The only aircraft types US has different from NW are the 737 and 767, delete those and NW could have sufficient aircraft in the former US fleet to accomplish this.

Even though NW is in pretty decent financial health, i do not think they (or any other airline) have the resources to acquire antoher airline.
The next generation of aircraft is just around the corner!

Hypothetically speaking, if NW were to acquire US, I would think that they would close MEM and move to CLT. The facilites are better and the location is roughly equivalent.

There is zero chance, the debt and problem with US and their bitter employees are not something another carrier is willing to take on.
If NWA or another airline wants part of US Airways they can petition the court with offers.
