Continental began receiving the first of 56 or so 737-500's in 1993 just as it emerged from Chapter 11.

They are about 11 years old and in excellent shape.

The first CO 737-500s were delivered in Feburary/March 1994, not 1993. I was on vacation in Orlando around that time and I clearly remember spotting them at the CO maintenance facility at MCO, there were about 4 lined up in a row. They entered service shortly there after, even today almost all of CO's mainline aircraft deliveries go to Orlando first from Washington State.

I was a Senior in High school back in 1994, thinking about that trip to Florida brings back alot of memories..

CO had, at one point, a total of 67 of the type. One was lost (Ship 643) in GDL a few years ago. Another three are parked in the desert at this time.

As I recall, no one was hurt in the accident. But the aircraft was a write-off. Wasn't even a year old yet.
