This news sounds very odd and is in contrast to an official press release of Aeroflot in the time they announced their big order for Airbus aircraft and Boeing aircraft. Although I can see the 777 swap with Lauda Air imaginable, as Lauda Air already operates the type, I find it very strange that Aeroflot would be interested in the A340-200. Aeroflot has indicated in the past that the 777s they operated were too big for their needs, that's why they opted for the smaller 767-300ER which will eventually replace their A310-300 fleet as well as the 777s they operated. Going back to a larger aircraft, the A340-200, would be odd in this case (even thouhg they operate the A320/319). Wasn't Lauda Air also planning to withdraw their small fleet of 777s to streamline their longhaul fleet with Austrian Airlines' longhaul fleet? If this is true, than adding more 777s to their fleet is also strange, unless there has been a management decision to keep their current 777s.

Not that I know - NG/OS tried to get rid of 1-2 of the oldest 763's and I think they sold these aircraft already. The 2 A340-200 might be 2 oldest A340-200 but I have my doubts - doesnt make sense to me at all since OS didnt announce anything like this.
It would make sense to to me to have 2-3 of the 767-300 of NG sent to SU and get 2 777 instead meaning that the entire far east / Australia operation could be done by 777 of OSNG.
NG will stay with Boeing. Yet unsure is if the 763 and 777 remain in NG livery or if they do get the OS livery..... I'd like to see a 777 in OS colours

I've read somewhere (but cannot find it right now) that OS wants to add - what I remember - Bombay, Osaka, Saigon and Johannesburg - but maybe I am wrong and my brains are not that good anymore. I have to search for it....

I thought the 3 767s were actually owned by My Travel, so leasing them out will be a good thing for them (Income and the fact they will still have them as assets), I don't understand why Aeroflot would introduce the 757 in such small numbers - a new type, granted it has commonality with the 767.
So Air Scandic are still stiffing after G-BYDA, never know they might get her in the end.

Regarding Air Scandic and the DC10, whether it be G-BYDA or otherwise, at least one tour operator are expecting Air Scandic to be up and running with a "refurbished modern DC10 aircraft" as soon as 23rd November this year!
Modern? hehe.. anyway, seriously, when does she leave the MyTravel fleet. Even if its bang on the end of the summer season 31st October, that only gives Scandic 23 days to get to grips with a new aircraft type. Methinks the A300s will be venturing to Africa!

I will be very surprised if the A340's are acquired. The fleet would then consist of the following very divergent aircraft + the A340-200:
Tu-134A3 (and others owned by subsidiaries Aeroflot-Don and AVL)
Tu-154M (and 154b2s owned by Aeroflot-Don)
Tu-204 on lease from GTK Rossia
IL-62M on lease from somebody I forget
IL-86 for charter basis, although not sure if still in service
An-24's owned by subsidiary AVL
DC-10-40F cargo w/ rumor of MD-11 acquiry as well
A310 mainline although slated for removal
B777-200 mainline although slated for removal
B767-300ER of various vintages
757-200 rumored acquisition as well

This is interesting news. I was not expecting the A340-200 at all. I wonder where that came from!?! Aeroflot changes their plans so often...it's quite depressing. Oh well. Their fleet should look very interesting after all the modifications have been done!
P.S. Afay1 don't forget recently there was a post mentioning that Aeroflot was looking for a small capacity airliner, so maybe the A318 is on the rumour list too!!!
